Door light problem

So today after work, I drove home, parked the Runner, then went back out to get some Christmas lights for the interior. (Bored, Broke, Out of Cheap Mods). When I went in the store and came out, my door light was still on. This happened last week too. But it went away after a bit. I've checked the door switches, hatch switch, pulled the 15A DOME fuse, no luck. When I turn the ignition to ON, it finally goes away and operates as normal. But when its off, the door light will stay on. Any ideas of whats wrong or what to check? I'm thinking its a short. And I'm not very good with electrical systems in cars. So, with that said, any ideas?

have you tested the switch in the door with a multimeter? Also check the switches in the dome lights themselves.
