#FC 280PT-22125 and I bought 4 of these little buggers for 19.95 shipped. Make sure they have a collar, mine came from MOPS Electric off Ebay.

I am thinking of tackling the actuator issues as well.
How did this solution work for you? Did the motors correct the issues with your actuators?
Also, what year is your 3rd gen 4Runner?

There are a few issues that can cause door lock problems, three that I can remember seeing, this being one of them.
For me:
the front left and rear right door locks got weaker and weaker, and it seemed to be temp related. You could see them jump, but it took extra tries for them to unlock and sometimes they couldn't unlock at all.
1996, daily driver so locked and unlocked multiple times nearly every day.
it corrected the issue described above
did this Sept 2013; 4 years later they still work perfectly

I want to thank you for the response! Clearly, many of us on this forum that LOVE our 3rd gen T4R's will (or have or have encountered) this issue at one point or the other. I am about to put in an order for four (4) of the actuator motors and replace all of them on my 2000 T4R rig. Knowing you have enjoyed success with this approach gives me confidence this is the RIGHT WAY to go.
One last detail question: Do I need to order the motors with the brass end/coupling?

Awesome, if the actuator motors are your problem then replacing them should fix it.
Note: My right front and left rear are still original and working fine....if you've got 4 bad ones- especially all of a sudden- you will want to research other possibilities too.
YES, get the motors with the short shaft and the brass collar. The number I gave is searchable but do make sure they are right- pic above and in my build thread, link above. There's a how-to there as well. Just remember I'm not a mechanic, nor do I play one on tv. I believe Iball engineer has a write-up here somewhere too.
I think MOPs is still around on ebay, but my old link might not work.

Do the door actuator assemblies or the door actuator motors differ by year?...

I used mine on the 96, front and rear were the same.
I haven't had to do the 99 yet but I think Iball engineer did something around that year with a nice write up.
Don't have much more than that. Toyota showed the lock actuator number for the rear to be the same for all the 3rd gens, don't know that they'd swap motors.
I do know the 4th and 5th gens are different.

I purchased these from MOPS on EBay: 4X FC-280 Motors with Collar - Car Door Lock and Mirror Motors - FC-280PT-22125
I could not be more satisfied! Changed all the motors out and now the door locks close like a vault. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Changing the actual motors out takes no time at all. It is getting the actuators out of the door, opening them up and reinstalling them that take the TIME!

Bama - I am getting ready to do this job on a 4th gen T4R (2006) and ordered the following given discussion on that forum. Same motor but they do not have the collar....did you need it?

Buckaroo, I definitely needed the collars! I have no idea about a 4th gen though. For me (to make sure) I went to a Pull-a-part yard and pulled the door lock actuator off a junk vehicle. I opened it up and the motor had the collar. This was just to make sure I needed them. Perhaps someone with a 4th gen (who has done this) can let you know for sure. Good luck man!
