door locking, but no lights or beep?

What would cause the factory alarm on my 2003 4runner to:

lock button: Doors lock, no lights, no sound

unlock button: doors unlock, lights works, sound works

So basicly for some reason when i go to lock it there is no indication but when i unlock it has all the indications.

anyone know whats up?

This has happened to me once or twice, but used to happen a little more frequently with my old Rav4. It only seemed to occur occasionally with the Rav, and maybe twice with the new 4Runner. Next time I pushed the buttons, it worked. Sorry, not much help.

I had a similar thing happen a while back. turns out there is a sensor in each door locking mechanism that senses whether the door actually locked. If I listened closely, when I hit the 'lock' button, I could hear it lock the doors and then try to lock the driver's door again...and since it wasn't successful, it didn't beep the confirmation. If you're experiencing the same problem, the test you can do is to figure out which door isn't locking properly (with the vehicle unlocked), go manually lock that door. then click the 'lock' button on the remote and see if you get the confirmation beep.

Of course, it could be that the sensor that detects whether the door is locked is broken...in that case, the doors would all lock. Mine was covered 100% under warranty, so I'd just go take it in to the dealer and get them to look at it.

The beep when locking used to be annoying to me...hehe...well, let's just say I like hearing the beep now a days...

yea i noticed last night while out; that the passanger front door was locked while all the others werent, hten i noticed that the car didnt lock the doors when i put it in drive. also i took the door panel off and i could hear the passanger side motor trying to lock and unlock the door but couldnt. the motor sounds like its weak. wierd all of the sudden this happens with out any wanrning.

the alarm controls all of the rest of the doors but not the front passanger on lock and unlock, also the panel lock button doesnt control it either. i have to lean over and manually do it.

kind of defeats the purpose of automatic locks.

yeah...it's pretty common, actually. and when it happens it just happens. happened on my 99 mazda after a couple of years...on my 2003 4r it died after about a year and a half or so. so far (*knock on wood*) hasn't happened on my 2004 4r. :
