Doors will unlock, but won't lock.

I had this same thing happen in my 2000 T4R. Before purchasing the junction block I took the old one out and sprayed it down with electrical cleaner. I let it dry for about an hour, reinstalled and door locks have worked ever since.
 
Try unplugging every connector in the junction block, waiting about 15 minutes and plugging everything back in. I've seen some newer Toyotas that something in the J/B locks up in them and causes weird electrical issues, only to function normally once you unplug everything and plug it back in.
 
I've got a similar issue but a different variant. My driver side door will unlock using the key but will not lock using the key! The key would not even turn. I guess some mechanical part issue.

i am having this same issue..just bought my first T4R saturday (97 sr5) and everything was fine...sunday morning same thing - all was fine

at some point sunday afternoon i found that i could unlock (barely) with the key in the driver's door but could not lock...key turns to the right enough to unlock the doors but the key won't turn to the left at all

passenger door is fine so is the door on the back

kind of a bummer to have this go out within 24hrs of buying it

any help would be greatly appreciated

You think I am having the same problem? I hit the lock button and all doors lock/ unlock except the rear gate. It has to be locked or unlocked with a key manually. My keyless remote is also on the blink but I doubt that has anything to do with it. Or does it?

Man. Your story is exactly like mine!! For me the locking worked for around 3 days! And there after, till date its the same situation.

I did that, blasted it with wd40, electrical contact cleaner, silicone grease, 3in1 oil. Nothing worked! :wtf:
 
I've been having this issue forever! I have a viper remote start and alarm and it always worked but now maybe one out of 1000 times it will unlock with remote. Always always locks with remote but never unlocks. Could this be it?
 
Just got my 99 Limited and I'm having this issue, it was known when I bought it. Right now I have to manually lock all the doors, I can't even hear it attempting to lock them.

I'm going to research some fixes and maybe watch some YouTube and report back :confused:
 
Just picked up my 2000 Limited and currently having this problem. Unlock works no problem even with the remote but locking is a no-go both inside the cabin and with the remote. Seller(sweet old couple that owned it since new) said it just crapped out on them a couple days ago. Will try what has been recommended in here and report back.

Bumping this one up top…


Most of the links are old and I can't see what the exact part is.

Mine has been doing the "won't lock" trick off and on for a couple months, mostly when cold. Hitting either passenger of driver side lock button it wants to lock keeps going up and down and making a clicking noise from the fuse panel mentioned previously in this thread.

Any luck with the spray and pray techniques? Best price on parts if not?

just got done fixing this issues......:) replace the fuse block from a 99-00 model.
works like a charm now even from my OE fob

I had the same problem 2 weeks ago. If you're too cheap to replace the fuse box (mucho dinero), I read about a guy who put a racquet ball in between the door and the box to put pressure on it. I crumpled up a Redbull can to the size I thought would put pressure... and it WORKED.

That worked for 4 days then it completely failed, then i got tired of climbing my seats to lock the doors
 
I was about to buy a new junction box/body control module when I decided to take the panel off and go for one last look.

found a frayed wire on one the square plug that goes into the yellow bcm. that must have been rubbing on something since 1998 that finally decided to cut. took a butt connector to it and now I my doors unlock.

Just posting it up here for future searches.
 
Resurrecting the old thread. My doors all unlock no problem from the inside of the vehicle and also from the fob. From the fob I can actually press the lock button and if all doors are locked, the car will beep and confirm it, but all doors must be locked manually. Just bought electrical cleaner and am going to spray and pray, I'll report back if it works *crosses fingers* :yo:
