Double Decker question

I have it too and wish it wasn't there. I took it completely out one time (primarily because I have too much free time) and it looked very "un-finished". I need to play on an illustrated parts catalog and see if there's a couple of cheap filets that would make it like it was never there.

If I find something and it's fairly cheap I'll post it.

The fact that anything you put on top deck in the up position, will slide off the upper deck to the rear of the car, with anything above gentle acceleration

I have tried to use it numerous times and unless the rear of the car is fully loaded anything I put on there, just slides off

joe

Undoubtably the silliest thing I've ever seen on a Toyota. Worthless as tits on a boar.

If you have an option of not getting one, I'd avoid it. I think I used it once when I first got the truck and since then it's been in the down position.

Which still gives you a the gap in back for stuff to fall down next to the hatch so that when you open it the stuff falls out.
Worthless IMO.

DD cargo net

Does anyone know where to order the cargo net for the DD? Mine came used without one.

Have you tried a search online? There are tons of parts and accessories places that offer the cargo net. Someone mentioned earlier to just ask a dealership. I bought my 4runner cert pre-owned and i was a lucky one to get the coin cup, receiver hitch with adapter, and cargo net included. There's nothing wrong with telling them you didn't get one and would like to have it. Worst case you have to pay for one.

IMHO its not killing anyone to just put the DD down and forget about it. I find ways to use anything. That's what we do in the Marines, we don't get the good stuff, we make due with what we have. I use my DD all the time. Its great for hiding all my combat and flight gear. That stuff is expensive and its my butt if my gear comes up missing. Its just easier keeping my gear with me since I commute to Camp Pendleton from Mira Mesa every day.

Depends on how you use you cargo space. I use mine as a locker for my golf gear (bag/clubs, shoes, spare clothes, etc) and all that fits under the shelf nicely and leaves the shelf space for regular stuff...groceries, stuff from the hardware store, whatever. You'd be surprised just how much the shelf's cargo net can cover and secure too.

I wouldn't blatantly call it either useless or useful to someone that was asking because I don't expect everyone to use it like I do...but I do find it useful personally and I would tell them why it is *I* find it useful.

I agree with Subsonic. That spider net can hold and secure a lot. Plus i put 2 cargo nets so i can separate stuff.

I too use it here and there. Its great to put stuff under there so "peering" eyes cant see what you have in the back. Dirty ski/mtn bike crap under and clean stuff up top just an example of the many uses of it.

Barefoot, CJ3Flyr, or anyone else, I would really like to have the DD but we got an 08 4x4 SR5 so this wasn't an option. Any chance any of you would be willing to sell yours, especially if you don't like it or if it serves no purpose for you? I was considering making something myself to substitute for the DD but I would prefer to get a factory one because it would be a much cleaner, finished look.
Perhaps I could get what I'm looking for and you could get a few extra bucks for something you have no use for, it's a win win!

I don't recall if the wheel well housings are different or not on the non-DD 4Runners, the DD shelf sits on the housings. If they are, you might want to find a local member with the same color to swap with.
