Doug Thorley Long Tubes!

Long tube are better at higher RPMs that what you will normally see in your 4Runner. For every day driving you will be better suited to go with the shorties. Long tubes are better for racing not the street. You loose low end power with the long tubes. The low end is what you use around town AND the highway. How often do you drive around at 3k+ RPM?
 
Since I put on the Doug Thorley Long Tubes, I eliminated a set of cats that were on the down pipes (still have a pair that are on the 'Y'). Since there is an absence of these cats, you'll get a check engine light along with the traction control system turning off. The simulator is a module as you can see in my second set of pictures that tricks the factory computer into thinking that they're still there.

OK Gaslight.....that was friggin deep.

I had no idea. I thought you were referring to a "gaslight", you know the one that comes on when you need gas.

Never thought it was a reference to torture. I think I liked it better when I thought you were running out of gas. Which means to me that you pound your vehicle so hard that you run out of gas. The real meaning isn't as manly, but whatever floats yo boat.

I am thinking of doing the the same with my 2004 T4R with URDs TCAI

You live in Maryland right. Do you have to pass some sort of air quality test out there

I so, will the O2 simulator keep the feds happy.

(My question mark isnt working on my laptop)
 
O2 Sim keeps the ECU happy and the Maryland VEIP happy as long as they only plug into the OBDII port and not tail pipe check it (which they usually don't with the new cars).

Can someone explain what VVT-i is? What are the advantages/disadvantages? Do all models come with this option? Or is this an upgrade?

I know thats plenty questions...but I know you all have plenty answers.When I do my exhaust...I want to do headers and exhaust at the same time....the outcome should be incredible!

so do they make headers for the v6 model? Is it a dual exhaust or single? That might be the next mod for me. Some doug thorleys with flowmasters (maybe magnaflow). Got to do more research before I pull the trigger.

Doug Thorley does not specifically make headers for the V6 4Runner. I've discussed with them that I've done it, and I'm surprised that they haven't updated to reflect that. I went with the long tubes for ease of install, plus you have the info from my writeup.

I might have to pay for the install. I wish I could install myself, but im not inclines, confident and I got paws the size of your head...haha.

If they dont specifically make a header for v6, which header did you purchase?

Hopefully I can install headers and exhaust one time. Not sure if I asked you before, but why havent you done exhaust yet? Im guessing its a $$$ issue....like all of us.

What are some of the performance advantages you've encountered since the install of the DT and the CAI?

Ideally...all I want to upgrade are DT headers, exhaust, CAI and maybe a mod chip. I think that should be enough.

Part # for the DT LT header should be the same for the FJ/Tacoma.

Hopefully I can install headers and exhaust one time. Not sure if I asked you before, but why havent you done exhaust yet? Im guessing its a $$$ issue....like all of us.

Definitely have picked up some GO! Friend has a 2005 Jeep GC with 4.7 V8 with mild mods and 4x4 and it'll take it down.

Ideally...all I want to upgrade are DT headers, exhaust, CAI and maybe a mod chip. I think that should be enough.

i plan on doing this in a few days. i just have a few questions b4 i start tearing off the headers. where'd u get the new studs and nuts?...crap i forget the rest of the questions. anything i should be aware of? im going to order in a week and install with a friend.
 
Just saw your PM. Basically in response for everyone's benefit:

Directions that come from DT plus my writeup and responses should suffice. Please read and reread everything so that you feel comfortable when install time comes.

1. Get new nuts for the headers. I believe there 12 per side? Just my principle. I work for a car manufacturer and it's been beaten in my head to not reuse certain engine parts among other assorted fasteners.

2. Get new studs. You will need at least 3 or 4 for the side I've explained that need removal. DO NOT REUSE! Again I admit I'm overly anal about these things so I replaced all.

3. Get new exhaust manifold gaskets. Why on earth DT says to reuse I don't know. *** Of most of the people I've read that have reused, their system leaked and had to do over!!! ***

- I bought 1 - 3 from the dealer.

4. I hate to say this part, but please have at least $250 on hand and the number to several area dealers in case your A/F sensor galls up upon removal. If it's cross threaded at the factory, there is no saving it, period. I'm not the only one that this has happened to, and I'm sure not the last. PB Blast them and take your time removing them. Work it out back and forth with a closed end wrench. If it's stuck, then the worst has happend and blast it off impact style.
