Dous's Build Thread

You can hear it rachet, but it is not an annoyingly loud noise. It is very subtle. You hear more of his tire noise then anything.

sounds normal to me. My rear lockright is pretty quiet. Install is pretty easy on these diffs. No ring gear removal or anything. Glad to see another locked up 4runner

Post up some pictures from todays install.

The camera lens got all boogered up with gear oil, but at least it smells good.

Thanks again Singtoe for the install!

Hey just a little tip. I ran 85-140 with my lock right for awhile, and after about 10k miles it stopped locking up right. I changed the oil back to the recommended weight and it started working properly again. I think that is just to think for it to function right. The Lockright is a little different since there is no side gear replacement so you keep the stock side gears and it meshes in them. Maybe the design of the aussie will be okay with the thick stuff

Thanks for the tip! In the manual it was recommending 85-140 for hot climates, maybe when it starts to get cold and become super thick that will happen.

Figured I needed to test out the Aussie, so I did. Nothing short of a miracle, traction is never an issue now, only problem now is not enough power, no low range :bash:

Couple of pictures

Looks great. All from a 2wd no less. Where did the painted gas tank protector/shield come from?

Is that Singtoe's boat parked in the driveway in one of those shots?

Haha that was actually my boat, or I guess my dad's. 2006 Chaparral, 305 Volvo Penta.

I just painted the gas skid red, I guess it looked better than rust, maybe a little ricey....:repuke:

Stupid spur of the moment Uwharrie trip, ran one trail, truck got too hot, went home. We need to try to go again sometime when it cools down, seemed like it worked very well though!

so next is gonna be a v6 and 4wd conversion right?
or maybe drop in a 2jz-TT

Haha neither will probably ever happen. Me and Singtoe were toying with the idea of putting in a transfer case, that way it would have the low range gearing in 2wd. I have found that the traction is there, but the power is not.

The 891's are VERY stiff, I am running the OME Nitrochargers as well, a different shock might make a difference. I have a lot of weight in the back end at least 200lbs, and they are not forgiving at all. Going over a speed bump the back end just plops down, almost like there is no suspension there at all. If you are all about ride quality, they are rough. BUT, for supporting so much weight without sagging; they flex beautifully.

-Alrighty, so I picked up some LX450 coils from Chris360Hawks while I was "vacationing" in Texas. They delivered about 2.5" more than my 891's did even with all the weight I have back there between the rack and tools/fluids.

-Also started to work on two front tube doors for a fun little project to mess around with. It may look dumb with out doors at all but boy is it fun to drive around.

I thought this picture turned out really cool too, even though it might not be of the 4runner!

You must have a lot of free time on your hands.

About the lift. Now you need to get some 285 retreads.

Spare is on the roof, looks better then in your truck.

Since you are on a welding kick, get some bead lock rings and make Faux bead locks.

Keep us updated on the rear bumper ive kind hit a stopping point with mine, how you seen it last time we were at URE is how it sits now, i cant figure out what i wanna do with the sides.

Anyways your runner is really turning out great

Oh I don't have that much free time, just had the day off yesterday! The tires do like a bit small now though, it would be so slow with 285's though. I'm not sure how bead lock rings would look on those wheels

Ycrunner- I bought some sheet metal to try and finish the sides, I'm just gonna go for it even though I'm sure it will look like crap!

I found some used 315/70/16 mud Mickey Thompson tires for sale the same as my Taco but bigger and a lot better tread.
