Downey Off Road & LC Engineering stainless cat back exhaust systems

I am planning to purchase a stainless steel cat back (muffler & tailpipe) exhaust system for my 1995 4-Runner after extensive research only found two sources of stainless for the 1990-95 4-Runners:

Downey Off Road (part # 17490-SCB=$296)
LC Engineering (part# 1042009=$390)

The Downey system uses a 2.5" diameter pipes which if I am not mistaken is for the V6 (3VZE) equipped 4-Runners as I am guessing that the 4 cyl (22R-E) equipped 4-Runners use a 2" diameter pipes am I right?.

I emailed Downey REPEATEDLY and never heard back it's been about 10 days.

The LC Engineering system it stated you must use a 17.5" catalytic converter which if I am not mistaken is also for the V6 (3VZE) equipped 4-Runners as I am guessing that the 4 cyl (22R-E) equipped 4-Runners use a 12.5" cat am I right?

I also emailed LC Engineering REPEATEDLY and never heard back regarding the above inquiry,first & only reply from them a month ago was asking me about my postal code so they can get me a shipping fee quote but there's no cence in buying a system that might not bolt on my 4 cyl 4-runner.

Anyone ever purchase a stainless cat back system from the above two places? if so are they a direct bolt on to a 4 cyl 4-Runner?.

If really pisses me off when you want to support small "mom and pop" businesses instead of the huge Cost Co,Wal*Mart,Rock Auto,etc but I notice some don't care about customer service.

One thing that defys logic is why NWOR doesn't post all its parts on its website. In order to really know what they offer, you have to get their catalog.

But anyway, the part # for a NWOR stainless steel cat back system, which uses 304 stainless steel 2-1/4 tubing for a 90-95 4Runner is N32005-SS. I don't know how much it costs today, but according to my circa 2003 catalog it was $490.

BTW, 2-1/2 inch tubing is used for 96 and up 4Runner kits by NWOR.

It appears the 22R and the 3.0V6 are lumped together as far as cat back systems go. Makes sense, they probably use the same size cat. NWOR catalog says using a 2-1/2 inch pipe for either engine causes too much of a decrease in exhaust gas velocity.

Catalog is not free, unfortunately. Probably cheapest to call them and ask a tech.

IMHO, the LC Engineering stainless header and cat back exhaust system is the best on the market. I looked at all the different possibilities and went with theirs in the end for my 84 4Runner. On that application it was truly plug and play. My Cat (22RE EFI of course) is 12.5".

I would give them a call. I've never had an issue with their technical support....once you get them on the line!

You won't be disappointed with this set-up.

BTW, I've seen lot's of complaints posted lately about some of the other vendors that you've mentioned (but I guess you can find negative stuff about any of them if you look hard enough).

PS: You want 2 1/4 tubing for a 22RE engine. That size gives the correct back pressure. 2 1/2 out the muffler is o.k. but I wouldn't go larger upstream of there.

Yes but LC Engineering's website clearly states to use a 17.5" cat where as the 22R-E uses a 12.5" long one so how did you end up bolting up your system?.

My 4Runner is an 85. I'm not sure where it clearly states this in their catalogue but I'll take your word for it.

Just give them a call. They will be open in about 3 hours, I think.

It clearly states it at the link I provided on top of this thread.I had a 1985 4-Runner until Oct of last year and I believe it has the same length catalytic converter as this 1995 4-Runner which I think is 12.5" long cat.

Hey Sid,

I may not be understanding this correctly, but here's my take.
I have a 86 22re and bolted on a Toyota stock V6 muffler which was a bit shorter than the stock 22re one. (V6 engines have the 17.5" cats) This makes it hard for the exhaust to be hung on the stock hangers. I just straightened out metal hangers to hang them thought the stock hanger mounts.

SO, even if the cat was a bit shorter, you would still be able to bolt the exhaust on. Just use some hangers outta your closet and hang it onto the stock location.

Can anyone who works at a Toyota dealership find out if what these 3 exhaust parts are made out of:

Front pipe # 17410-35320
Muffler (muffler/tailpipe) # 17430-3D052
Catalytic converter # 18450-35150

by either grabbing them from your parts dept or calling Toyota distribution?.

I ended up purchasing the front pipe and muffler from my local O' Reagans Toyota dealership after they told me numerous times that these parts were stainless steel but when the parts arrived they were not. They outright lied to me and I was forced to purchase them as they were pre-ordered for me. now 4 years later my muffler needs replacing.

Anyone know of a stainless steel muffler cat back system for a 1990-95 Toyota 4-Runner, 22R-E engine with a 12.5" long catalytic converter?.

Muffler shops here would want a fortune and the muffler would still not be stainless only the pipe before and after, yet they fail to tell you this.
