Drag Race: Supercharged V8 T4R vs. FX35

I just had a random thought. Most people (including myself) think of something like the FX as a car or station wagon rather than an SUV because it's unibody. You could also say that it's because it's based on the same platform as the G35, but almost all of Nissan/Infiniti's unibody platform vehicles are based on their FMV architecture first used in the '02 Altima, and then modified from there for other vehicles.

So really we're just saying that it's more of a car because it's unibody. But then what about the VW Touareg? From what I've seen and read, those things are monsters off road and with the diesel motor they can pull nearly 10,000 pounds. All with a unibody structure. Same thing but less in terms of towing and more in terms of off-roading capabilities with the newly redesigned 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I think it's unibody too, but those things will out off-road many if not most body on frame SUVs currently on the market!

I think as time goes on, the line between "truck/SUV" and "car" will continue to be more and more blurred. Honda has plans for a small pickup truck here pretty soon, and guess what? It's gonna be unibody! First unibody pick up truck ever on the US market to my knowledge...

And isn't the Cherokee a Unibody? That thing can be made up for some serious off-roading! I agree though... I asked my wife the other day if she wanted to take mine or her "wagon, er, car, er, SUV, errr Crossover Vehicle..." Really it's a bit of all. Whatever it is, it works. Quick, good gas mileage, way more interior room than my 4 Runner, handles much better than it should. But it's not cheap, i think the sticker new (we bought it used) is in the $40k range. Closer to $50k for the FX45 (only comes in all-wheel drive).

Congrats on beating the girl in her FX35! :
You must have one special 4 Runner! The numbers on the FX35 are 7.1 & 7.3 to 60 (C&D, Road and Track). That should put you at about 6.5 to 60!!

Obviously, it wasn't a real race. She was definitely like a high school girl in a brand new FX35. If it was a "real" driver, I probably would have lost. It just sounded like she was trying. I have read on msn carpoint that the V8 4Runner does 0-60 in 7.1 sec, so it would not be that far behind. Here is the article!

6.3 is pretty damn quick for something that size. i know Cadillac SRX or whatever it's called is pretty quick on it's toes as well from the comparo's i've read on it.

as far as sticker price goes, the FX35 isn't cheap. my GFs friend bought one new for about $46k… only to total it while driving drunk about 8 weeks later. she's getting a new one shortly if MD permits her to drive…

WOW! That's the best time I've seen yet on the 4 Runner. The next best time was an 8.3, I think in C&D. I think if that was the case though, his Blown 4 Runner would have destroyed the FX every race. We both expected it to anyway. But I'm SURE if his was a 4x2 with stock sized tires it would have pulled the FX pretty good...

I've unofficially calculated my 0-60 at 5.7. Two seconds faster than a stock V8 runner. Per this article.
