Drive shaft bearing?

I have a 2000 sr5 4x4 that has developed a vibration around 45mph. Started looking around and notice my drive shaft u joint nearest the transmission was the culprit. As I dug deeper I now believe its some type of bearing in the drive shaft. Need to replace if possible but don't know what it is called.

The centering ball is in the middle of the DC. You can see the two sides in the first picture, and the second picture is the centering bearing. If you need one try contacting Cruiser Outfitters. They had them in the past at least, or try High Angle since they are the only ones who carry the u-joints for our double cardans.

Try Cruiser Outfitters for the bearing. You can get the double cardan u-joints from High Angle (part number UJ-236).

called them both, cruiser outfitters doesn't have it and high angle wants to rebuild. Going to keep looking.

Any experience with eliminating the center bearing and just using u joints?

when did they go to a double joint on the rear dline? that seems crazy.

Not really sure on that. I've never gotten rid of the bearing before.

All 3rd Gen's are double to my knowledge.

hm. I would think, unless they really shortened the wheelbase, or drastically changed the angle, one would be able to run a straight shaft, and no DC, just as the previous gens were.

well just ordered center bearing ball from Rockford drive line. Comes in two sizes so ordered both for around $60 and will return the wrong one once I get it sized up.

Guy at Rockford said to much play if eliminated the center bearing ball.
