Driver controlled window lock question

I did several searches and didn't see my question, I apologize if this was already covered, if so kindly provide me the link and I will delete this thread.

I have dogs, they ride exclusively in the back. They sometimes put their paws on the rear window control and push the rear windows down.
I know about the driver controlled window lock, here is my issue. I no longer and neither does my passenger (the boss lady) have control over the front passenger window, rear tailgate window, or rear passenger Windows unless I hit the driver control button again.
Why does this matter? It's super annoying, and if said dogs paws are on the rear window control, then the Windows go down when I unlock to control any of the above mentioned Windows.

Question, any smart electric minded folks know of a fix where the "lock" button only prohibits the two rear passenger Windows from being operated by the rear passengers only?

Ideally I would like to lock the rear passenger windows and still have control of front passenger, rear tailgate, and rear passenger Windows without locking and unlocking the "lock" button every time.

I have a GM vehicle where the drivers window switches can still operate any window but the individual switches are locked out. That's what Toyota needed to do in our T4s. Hope someone has better input other than disconnecting the switch wires for the rear windows.

It just sounds like the window ECU management system has gotten partially locked out as a result of the dogs (or someone) pressing down on more than one window button simultaneously i.e. for extended periods or on multiple occasions. There is a 'multiplex network door ecu' located in the lower center of liftgate, and a Power management control ECU located in the Center of dash. These two ECU's are always in communication with the Main Body ECU Compu network; which is mounted in the driver-side junction/fusebox.

I'll assume that none of the door trim panels have been removed recently or else I think that you would have mentioned it, so I won't go into window electrical trouble-shooting at this point. Your posted description of the problem and surrounding circumstances would have me to believe that this is a loss of communication (Lockout) problem within the ECU Network and not a 'conventional' electrical system problem.

Having said that, you'll need to drive those ECU's back into their default factory settings by disconnecting them from their Constant power supply. To do this, disconnect the Negative battery cable from the battery and leave it disconnected for at least a full four hours; this will give all three of the ECU's a chance to fully drain their memory banks and so they'll be forced to go back to their factory default (RESET) operational settings. Surely not.. it'd be easier to tape something over the switch than to rip door panels off every time you wanted to make this change.

You might want to re-read the post from the OP. There is nothing wrong with his ECUs or anything else. His window locks and switches are working as designed....the question is whether or not that could be easily changed.

There really is no easy way to do this from the master switch, it controls everything.

The easiest way would be to rig a switch to interrupt the ground to the 2 rear window regulators and leave the factory override switch "on".

Thanks guys for the replies. Just as Bobstrail said, this is my 1st vehicle to have the "lock" switch work in this manner.

I really didn't want to disconnect the rear passenger window switches, as I do have friends/family that should be able to control their windows as normal.

I was thinking something along the line of what antman suggested, I just wanted to see if anyone with more knowledge than me has ever attempted this.

I am actually quite surprised that no one has ever complained about this annoyance before.

Yes it is annoying. Yes even cheaper vehicles in other makes all have the ability to lock out all windows but let the drivers controls still have master capabilities.

It is annoying. I do not know of a fix. My German Shepherd is now to big for free reign in the cabin. So I have a divider and keep her in the rear cargo area.

Have I said it is annoying ;-) it is. It seems like Toyota didn't think this through.

So in other words I have no fix, except move puppies to rear. But I fully empathize with you.

Did not even realize this. Had to try it out. I don't have kids and my dogs are afraid to ride in the car so I NEVER use this feature. Hopefully you figure out a solution

I have two pugs and a Boston terrier. My black pug cries the whole time in the vehicle. My Boston won't sit, he just stands on the seat looking afraid, ears drooped. My fawn pug wants to sit on my lap while I'm driving and that's too unsafe for me. I'm always bummed out when I see other folks with their dogs in their trucks, especially if I see a 4R.

Neither of my two dogs enjoy riding in cars.

My English Mastiff is just too big to really get comfortable, and my puppy (we aren't exactly sure what he is) tends to get carsick and puke most of the time.

I did....

By "no longer" having control over the rear windows, he means after he activates the window lock. It's not a new condition, and it's the same way every 5th gen 4runner works. Go out to your truck, lock the windows, and try and roll down one of the rears using your switches on the driver's door.

If you want to pull your battery cable and try again after, be my guest.

I have the same issue OP. I lock my windows because I usually lay the back seats down and have the dogs in the back during road trips. But this means I can't control any window except my own. Every vehicle I've had with a window lock hasn't worked like that, and has allowed the driver to control each window regardless of the state of the window lock. It's frankly asinine that Toyota designed the window lock this way.

If anyone has wiring schematics handy I'd be happy to take a look and see if I can figure something out.

Every vehicle I've had with a window lock hasn't worked like that, and has allowed the driver to control each window regardless of the state of the window lock. It's frankly asinine that Toyota designed the window lock this way.

If anyone has wiring schematics handy I'd be happy to take a look and see if I can figure something out.
