Driver Window clunk?

My 04 Limited V8 makes an annoying clunk when I use the auto down feature on the drivers side window. It doesnt happen every time so I can't seem to isolate it down. Anyone else having any issues like this? I want to avoind the dealership at all costs because the 1 the dealers in Italy have never really seen a T4R and 2 they are some of the biggest crooks I've ever seen.

I had this going on for awhile and then one day the drivers window just fell into the door. This could be the beginnings of a window regulator failure, at least that's what it was on mine.:shrug:

Thanks for the heads up, do you remember roughly how much a new regulator was and if this is somethingthat I could possibly change myself?

Priced roughly in the $100.00 range plus another 100 to get it done by my mechanic. If you are a Wrench it's definitely do-able. Would suggest a helper to hold the window up while you R&R the old regulator.:thumb3:

Driver Window Clunk

Hi, I'm new to the forum...first post! I just picked up my '04 Sport V8 a couple of days ago. I had an '86 SR5 from 86-94 4cyl stick that I loved (let go at 250K mi).

I too have the slight window clunk! -half way down and half way up. I COULD attribute it to the sleet storm were're going through right now (in Minnesota) but after reading your post I'm thinking there might be a problem. Was you issue the regulator? How did you resolve it? Thanks, Mike

Unfortunately I havent been able to fix mine yet. Trying to get parts here is a huge PITA! I am just keeping an eye on it for now and will fix it in a few months when we take it back to the states.

Same issue

I have the same issue. I bought my 4 runner used in 2005 with 16k miles. I have 106k miles now and i always use my drivers side window. No problems as of today.

+1 with this issue. It seems to come and go on mine as well but no issue in almost 4 years. Someday I may get the motivation to pull apart the door and see if anything can be done.

On similar topic, my driver's door croaks pretty badly when it is warm out, sounds like my old S10 door when the hinges were rusted out. Anyone have this issue too?

Driver side window clunk

Thinking about it a little more, I wonder if it's somehow related to the half way up stop-on-obstruction safety feature. Something in there must signal the half way mark. A switch maybe? The noise does occur at the half way mark.

So far it's just annoying and guess unless it gets worse I'll wait until spring to take anything apart.
