Drivers side lean

Time for yet another thread about this. I recently changed my OME 884 coils for 885's. Once it was done, the truck was level, however after driving ~60 miles and getting an alignment I found that the drivers side was 1 1/4" shorter at the front wheel well. The coils are mounted correctly as are the shocks into the shock mount and lower control arm.

Anyone got any idea what could be causing this? Thanks in advance.

This is common for our 4runners. I did a 885/super flex lift and was about an inch down on the drivers side. The common fix is installing a daystar 1.5" spacer on the drivers side rear. I did this yesterday and it leveled it out perfectly.

Yup, same here. Just post a "WANT TO BUY" add in the CLASSIFIEDS section of T4R.org, asking for a 4th gen 1.5" rear spacer and somebody will respond. I had the same issue as you and a member let me have one of their old Daystar's for about $20.00 shipped. GOOD LUCK!

Anyone know why they lean like this?
I'd be interested to see if the amount changes when the gas tank is empty...

The driver side of the vehicle just seem to be heavier the way it's set up. Gas tank, battery etc I'm sure with an empty gas tank it'll be a little less. Do the DS spacer as others have said above and it will help. I'm running a DS spacer with my set up and also a 1" spacer on the pass side but that's only for the extra lift, so really i'm only 0.5 higher on the driver side rear but i also have my front coilovers cranked up more on the driver side to help compensate for the lean. So my ride is sitting pretty even all the way around.

By the way you going to the FJNE run again in a couple weeks?

I don't think it's a real mystery...
the battery, gas tank and driver are on one side with nothing else to counterbalance it on the other side.

with an empty gas tank it would be less drastic for sure... but the coil rate used determines the amount of compression...

most real coils are in the 200#/in range... the ome 884/885 coils have a 590 lb/in rate... so with up to 200 lbs on the driver side (without the driver) it's gonna compress more than the passenger side. Add the driver and if you're 200#+ like me then you're really compressing the driver side more than the passenger side. hope this makes sense

Overall though, everyone that has installed a single rear daystar spacer on the driver side has corrected the lean, I plan to do this as well this year.

My stock 4runner driver side coil is slightly thicker than the passenger side. I'm assuming to compensate the heavier side. And I never had the lean.

Absolutely. See you there?

I don't know about 4Runner but it was a common issue with Land Cruisers too due to the weight and drivetrain being slightly off-set. I'm about to put a new OME in my truck, maybe I should add the spacer at that time. Anyone have one sitting around?
