Hello everyone! I am wondering which drive shaft I would need to replace on my 2010 4runner to get rid of the clunk for good. I am tired of greasing it all the time. I think the 2016+ 4runners it was fixed so maybe that drive shaft or the Lexus GX one? I’ve seen some topics on this but can’t figure out an exact part number. Any help with this would be appreciated!

Toyota issues "fix" for axle wrap / driveshaft clunky-thumpy
If you look at the 1st post, the photo of the TSB shows the replacement part number as 37110-35A90. I’d read through that thread just to make sure.
I have the same issue and am contemplating replacing as well, it drives me absolutely crazy. And yes, I grease all 6 zero fittings on a monthly basis.

I'm wondering if the slip joint has too much grease in it. I think I would remove the grease zerk, wrap something around the driveshaft to catch grease, drive over deep dips, and then check for ejected grease.
Has anyone disassembled a slip joint to see why the slip joint produces clunking?

I grease until all old grease weeps out, remove zerk fittings and bounce on the back of my car and wipe up all the excess grease…I do this every time.
Clunk goes away for a few days and then slowly comes back. I’ve also tried multiple different types of grease as well but nothing really works.

I got mine replaced under warranty. The part number is the one Ascole spec’d.

Im guessing you were still within your drivetrain warranty when you did this?

Yes, that’s the rear one. It’s the one that clunks as far as I know.
Yeah, within 18 months of purchase. The clunk started around 10k, I took it in for my 2nd free oil change (early 2010’s spec’d 5,000 OCI), asked them to make sure to grease the Zerks. They didn’t do this as I saw they were still sealed with paint, so I went back soon after armed with the TSB.

I've part time 4WD and had your issue with the clunk. I realized putting it in 4WD on dry pavement (I switched 4WD on monthly to keep T-case and front diff lubed) was causing it. I only use 4WD on snow or in mud and no clunk issue anymore. I think front and rear diffs are out of sink on these part time rigs.
