Just traded my 02 Sequoia Limited for a 09 4Runner Limited and I am getting used to how a it sounds. When driving on some what flat land / small hills at 30 - 40 MPG I notice that seems that it tach is around 1000 RPM and the vehicle is in the highest gear. The V6 engine and the transmission sounds as if it is in too high a gear at times when driving 30 - 40 MPH. If I were driving a standard shift I would down shift. Does this sound normal for a 2009 4Runner with a V6? Thanks for all your help.

Yup, exactly like mine. Mine has gotten worse with the newer, bigger, tires too.
Honestly, I just put mine in 4th when I'm around the city. It keeps it from bogging down and/or searching for gears.
Thanks for your insight. Do know if tow a 6 X 10 cargo trailer should you tow in 4th? I did not see that in the manual but when I towed with my 02 Sequoia I would turn off the overdrive. The manual for the Sequoia said you should turn off the OD while towing. I am thinking that putting the 4Runner in 4th would kind of be the same thing. I believe the Sequoia had a 4 speed OD transmission where as the 4Runner I believe has a 5 speed OD transmission. Thanks for all your help.

Not sure if things changed in '09, but the owner's manual for our '08 says to always tow in 4th gear, even on the highway. And, yeah, as mentioned above, I usually put her in 4th when driving on city streets at 35mph and under (but that's just a Personal preference; Toyota doesn't really care unless you're towing).
