Driving Pet Peeves!

I am constantly driving for work and personal reasons and find it hard to believe that some people are so bad at it. There are quite a few things that other drivers do that really frustrate me, so I thought I would start a thread about road manners and pet peeves while on (or off) the road.

1) Not using your turn signal to change lanes or turn
2) Driving under the limit, then speeding up when I go to pass you
3) Personalized plates like "Red Vet" on a red corvette
4) People that do not understand the order of operations at 4-way stops (the turn system)
5) During in rush hour, cars that go down the open lane instead of waiting in line. Then, at the last minute put their blinker on and expect to be let over
6) :ak472: PHONES, PHONES, PHONES - Put the $%*^ing thing down and drive

What are some of your pet peeves about traffic, parking, drivers, etc

I totally agree with all those (especially #5) plus, a variation of #5, when there are signs for a mile out saying "exit only" (this lane) yet people wait to move over until the exit is right in front of them and have no where to go. Then they stop to try and merge over and block everyone else trying to exit. It's not like they didn't know it was coming from all the signs. There should be a rule that you must get off the exit and re-enter the highway to keep traffic moving in that case.

I just remembered this one too. I've seen people driving and reading (book or newspaper) which seems horribly dangerous.
Also, I saw this a lot in Chicago. People would pull into a parallel parking situation and just run into the car in front of and back of them. I asked my sister about it and she said, "that's what bumpers are for..."

Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

Mhmmm.... Maybe you are just driving too much. Don't let those feelings escalate into "road rage".

I agree with all of them too. I live in the heart of crappy driver central. I think my biggest frustration is not that people are incapable of driving well, but it's that the vast majority of it is that they are in their own bubble. They are unaware of their surroundings. Bleah. Gets my heart rate up just thinking about it.

I have a few to add, but they're not really driving related as much. I can't stand people who can't park like a normal person or people who drive in a vehicle that's about 3x bigger than they can handle.

so true..

just this past weekend, I almost got hit twice in an matter of minutes..

some ***** decides it would it be cool to change lane with only an few yards in between at the last minute with no blinkers... not even an minute later, another person in an heep decides it would be cool to merge into my lane the very last second..

the other day driving to work, some moron decides lets do 40 in an 55 zone..

getting off of work, I think the guy was intoxicated.. he was doing even slower than the posted speed limit.. followed by with no headlights on.. this was at 0100.. after a few miles, the sheriff caught up and finally pulled the person over..

People that drive UNDER the speed limit in the fast lane. It seems like I only find this issue in my town. Every other large city I've been in people smash in the fast lane.

Nope, that happens here too. People that like to do 55 in the fast lane, then flip you off when you pass them at 60 or 65.

My latest is people who don't understand what "Merge - Lane Ends" means...

In Albuquerque it means floor it and try to pass everyone in the Left lane which does not end
or force your way into the lane.

My ongoing pet peeve though is with Subaru drivers - usually Outbacks or Forresters
that have to drive in the fast lane around 10 - 15 MPH under the friggn speed limit!!!!!!

And most often it's some Earth Muffin type Stupidfugger...You know the types that wear those
floppy hats and birkenstocks. And to top it off one I see regularly has plastic flowers on the luggage rack....LOL

There are times I just want to shift into 4 wheel and drive right over them....:gun5:

I've used #2 to my advantage. Long story short, I was in the fast lane on 70 going about 75 (speed limit 70) Black GTO gets on my tail, I put my blinker on but as soon as I start switching lanes he gets over and speeds up. I go back in the fast lane and speed up a bit. Now while this is all happening my radar begins to go off, that means a cop is sitting somewhere within a mile. So over the hill we go, at the bottom is a state trooper. He gets pulled over, I win. :guitar3:

2) Driving under the limit, then speeding up to run a red light (Okinawan Thing)

5) Drivers that pull out in front of you without looking and then drive under the speed limit (Okinawan thing)
6) Drivers who do not put their kids in car seats, boosters, or seatbelts (Okinawan thing)

Same with every thing you said, but I'm going to add one.

Slamming on your brakes in front of me because I honked at you because you pulled out in front of me

Where do I begin....

1. People who cut you off only to go SLOW
2. People who sit in the left lane, oblivious.
3. People who can't park normally, or purposely take up 2-4 spots (asking for trouble much?)
4. Lack of turn signals
5. People who sit on the highway with their blinker on, expecting to be let in. Put your game face on and get aggressive.
6. People who block you from getting out somewhere instead of letting you in, when it would have been so easy to do, if they're sitting at a light or something.
7. The lack of understanding how an intersection works when there's only stop signs.
8. TEXTING. Ok, all phone use.
9. Tailgaters when I am already doing 10mph over the speed limit.
10. Europlates
11. Ricers who drive like morons. Yes, they are a group all their own.
12. People who drive with their pets in their laps. I don't care if it's a little rat dog or a 110lb shepherd. It's bad either way.

There are more but I won't write a book here. I can sure be a b**ch if other people piss me off in traffic but come one, common curtsey goes a long way.

When someone speeds up just to drive right next to you! or next to the car in front of you. That's my biggest one along with other drivers in general. Or if your like me and have to drive over mountains regularly with the occasional passing lane. When the person in front of you goes super slow then speeds up during a passing lane or rides your a** as soon as you pass them

I wish my truck had a grenade launcher mounted to it! :gun5:

Oh man, I could ***** about pet peeves for hours but ill try to keep it as short as I can Haha. I used to have a slight aggression problem when it came to responding to others on the road around me that were being idiots (back when I was young and dumb and drove cara that were way to fast.) I am much better now with age and the fact that the 4r, even with a supercharger, is no race car. I agree to everything already mentioned but ill add a few of my own...
-people who drive with there highbeams on. I usually put them into three categories: people who are oblivious, people who have a blown headlight and think that makes it ok to drive with there highs on, and ricers who thing that having there highs on makes there car loom cool or jdm or whatever. Its not cool and they usually get a face full of hid ipf goodness for it.
-people who block intersection or driveways while in traffic. If there is no room for you on the other side of the green light, then just wait!
-people on crotch rockets who ride like the laws of the road or science don't apply to them. I have almost killed multiple idiots because I go to change lanes after making sure its clear, only to have some dumb @ss in a Mohawk helmet on a liter bike come flying by at 120.

- people who leave there turn signal on going around on/off ramps
- people who don't pull all the way onto the weight pad at stop lights so I have to wait for forever to go.

I am sure I can think of a ton more, but that's it for now.

My biggest pet peeve is truck drivers on the interstates that think they can pass the truck in front of them. They then pull into the fast lane right in front of you and find they can not go faster than the other truck up a grade. They then both end up going lower than the speed limit and back up traffic for a long ways throwing rocks on your windsheild the whole way.
