Driving Pet Peeves!

My biggest pet peeve is when people drive with their hazard lights on in the fog. All the hazards do is distract and annoy everyone else on the road. We are already straining to see in the fog, and then some asshat comes along in the other direction with his flashers on, monentarily blinding everyone else. Hazards are to warn of actual road hazards, everybody already knows it's f'ing foggy! And your headlights are a lot brighter anyways (if they are worried about other cars seeing them).

The worst is when they do it while they are in a line of cars. As if somehow we noticed the 3 cars in front of you and also the 3 cars behind you, but THANK GOD you have your flashers on, because you would have been invisible otherwise, right?

And the worst is when you are stuck behind them having to stare at their flashers. In those situations, I usually just light them up with my high beams and every off road light I have until they pull over and let me pass. Sometimes I'll flash my high beams in unison with their hazards if they still don't get the damn point.

I hate people.

1) Not using your turn signal to change lanes or turn
2) Driving under the limit, then speeding up when I go to pass you
4) People that do not understand the order of operations at 4-way stops (the turn system)
5) During in rush hour, cars that go down the open lane instead of waiting in line. Then, at the last minute put their blinker on and expect to be let over

When the person in front of you goes super slow then speeds up during a passing lane or rides your a** as soon as you pass them

All these are my peeves too, especially #5 being my biggest one. We have a few spots in town where this happens, and they'll do it even if there's only a couple in line. I make sure I'm pulled up as close as I can to the person in front of me so they can't get in, they could've gotten in line with the rest of us, lol.

Sounds like a lot of people hate oblivious drivers, which is also a HUGE one for me. I also hate when people rush to pull out in front of you just to slow you down and driver under the speed limit.
Or, on the highway, when people just hang out on your rear quarter panel. Look, speed up or slow down, but don't just hang out there to block me from getting over. Of course, they probably don't even realize they're doing this, which comes back to oblivious drivers! :gun4:

Driving Pet Peeves

Aside from most of the aforementioned, the litterbugs with a tobacco habit deserve DIShonorable mention. Keep your butt in the car, dammit!
:ybrick:

I drive almost 100,000 miles a year - much of it in a big rig; and the two most egregious offenders are the dolts who don't signal turns or lane changes AND the morons who do not know what "Slower Traffic Keep Right" means!

Both are infractions under existing law in most states, but go unenforced. These inconsiderate drivers not only cause "road rage" and increase congestion on the highway, but are dangerous to everybody else because they create conditions that lead to accidents/crashes.

Anyone who has ever driven in Germany on the Autobahn - where they do it right - will know exactly what I mean.
:girl:

Pisses the living hell out of me when people tailgate and act like they are doing nothing wrong when I tap my brake lights at them. Wouldn't be too bad if they weren't putting my life and my vehicle in danger. Also people who drive slow in the fast lane and who refuse to go in the slow lane.

LOL, when someone is tailgating me I usually slow down and piss them off. Get off my @$$, damn it! If you weren't riding it I would speed up.

I share many of the 'hates' listed here, and the Left Lane Bandit is the one that gets me the worst.

This isn't such an issue with the T4R, but my other daily driver is a 300+HP Legacy GT Spec B. Admittedly, I hustle along, and I try hard to avoid passing on the right. I'll wait behind a left lane bandit until he notices me. I might give a quick flash of high beams. Just a flick. Only if I'm forced to, will I go right.

On multi-lane highways, the left lane is for faster traffic. Even if you're travelling at or above the speed limit, the left lane is not for you to drive in. It is for overtaking, then you move right again. It's common sense, common courtesy and it's the law.

If you experience a lot of tailgaters, you might be your own worst enemy. Ask yourself if you're displaying poor lane discipline.

Agreed.
Why is it that smokers finish a cigarette and immediately fire it out the window. Who do you think you are that you get to throw your garbage like that?

DC Metro... 'nuff said.

Study: Washington is home to America’s worst drivers - Post Now - The Washington Post
Cities With The Worst Drivers - Forbes

But... pretty much everything listed thus far. The biggest I'd have to say are the morons driving 45 in the left lane on I95/I495/I695 :gun4:.
Oh, and if it's not a bright sunny day, give it up. Your commute just had an hour+ added to it. A drop of water, a flake of snow, a hint of fog, a little wind, a little overcast... you're screwed.

:lookout: :gun5:

I'm in the DFW metroplex. My biggest saying is, "to create an instant idiot, just add water." I never understand why 3 drops of rain suddenly removes your ability to drive.

My other big pet peeves are:

1. Riding my a$$ when it's POURING outside. Do you think YOUR brakes are as good as mine? (This is in any lane, I don't stay in the left lane.)

2. Unless your vehicle has bluetooth (or your on some other LEGAL headset), if you're the driver, you should never have a phone in your hand. Period. It's already been proven that using a phone while driving is just as bad as being drunk, why hasn't this been completely banned yet?

3. If you can't see over your steering wheel, it's probably time to hang up your license. Sorry grandma, but if your eyes are barely visible over the dash, I don't think you should be out driving around. Have your kid/niece/grandkid/friend etc help you out.

4. Signs on the road aren't suggestions, they are LAW. Is the sign WHITE? Then it's LAW. "Slower traffic keep right. Left lane for PASSING only. THIS LANE ENDS YOU IDIOT and IVE BEEN TELLING YOU SO FOR 10 miles" LEARN TO READ!

5. If you're on a motorcycle, the SHOULDER is not a passing lane.

6. When it says LEFT LANE MUST TURN LEFT, that doesn't mean look over to see if I'm ALSO turning left (since I can turn OR go straight) and then proceed THRU. It means, TURN LEFT ALWAYS, not at your discretion.

/end rant

I have 2 that weren't listed.

1) not knowing how traffic circles work

2) I'll try and explain this one as best as possible. People on the highway that are in the slow lane, they see you coming up behind them, and get in the fast lane to pass someone way in front of them, all to avoid having to take off their cruise control.

Other than that, I have a large white sticker on my back window that reads, "SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT"

Too bad most of the time it's in front of you...

If I was a cop, I would drive around and do this all day. (warning: commentary is VERY annoying. I recommend watching at a low volume or on mute)

Here's some more...

1. Truckers who intentionally turn onto the highway in front of you, forcing you to slam on your brakes. "I'm bigger than you and you're going to let me in whether you like it or not". Wait your turn!

2. Jerks who expect you to pull off and drive on the shoulder of a two lane highway to let them pass you when you're going at or above the speed limit. You other folks from TX know about this one!

3. Little Junior in his 1998 Honda Civic who thinks everyone else on the road enjoys the flatulent sound of his weedwhacker exhaust and having their fillings rattled loose by his stereo.

My patience tank goes straight to empty for people that merge onto a freeway doing at least 15 under the limit, sometimes 20 or 25. Most interstates are only 2 lanes between major cities and having to come off cruise control for some mouth breather in a '92 Beretta who thinks a signal is akin to a presidential pardon is a real game changer in making a drive enjoyable or not. Slow drivers are bad but slow drivers who bring their slowness TO you is just a special kind of unforgivable.

Well Louisiana has the highest rate of uninsured drivers anywhere so you always have to be on your toes when you drive. It gets tricky. My biggest pet peeve is BAD DRIVERS IN GENERAL!!

Ah yes.. THIS! ^^
What we have is Left Lane Turns Left, Right Lane Turns Right and Goes Straight Through, but since the a$$h0les are toooo impatient to wait their turn in the right lane to go straight, they'll get in the left lane and go straight, literally forcing their way in. I've actually witnessed people use their side mirrors as offensive weapons. Shattered both mirrors and they both drove off like nothing happened...:confused:

Morons and a$$h0les :gun5::gun5::gun5::gun5::gun5::gun5:

Here are a couple, that I encountered this week
- Drivers that stop 10' short of a stop sign so they "get there first"
- When 2 drivers drive the exact same speed down side roads, or the highway, not allowing anyone to pass
- General lack of road etiquette
- This one may be my own fault/impatience (people that insist on driving the speed limit at all times)
- Hourly employees, that drive company vehicles who are in no hurry to get anywhere to do their job
