Driving Pet Peeves!

People who slow down first (or wait till the last second) then turn on the turn signal (if at all) then turn.
The signal is there so we know you are about to slow and turn.

Slow driver on fast lane who are oblivious to the long line of cars stuck behind them.
Slow drivers who stomp on the gas as soon as you try to pass them. I dont get it.

I've been in the Black Hills of SD a few years now, and they have their own brand of "weirdness" here, mostly centered around being slow and indecisive--it's like most of the drivers are 90+.
- Driving 5-15 under the speed limit
- Can't merge: enter hwy 20mph or more below traffic flow; use whole merge lane until nearly on shoulder; more likely to slow down than speed up, even if there's an opening just ahead of them; practically mow down barrels when approaching construction merge
- Can't park: nearly 1/3 of all cars in a parking lot with normal straight lines will be angle-parked, because they pull in too soon and can't line it up, then just leave it (I've nicknamed it the "Dakota slant")
- Signaling is completely random: use on this turn, not on next; never use (like many places); usual procedure is to wait to see how traffic is acting around them before signaling, then once they see they're screwing things up, they hit the signal, which of course is too late by then
- Wait until last possible second to turn, even if it's across multiple lanes in heavy traffic, regardless of whether anyone is already there; will regularly make turns from straight-only lanes (had a city tour bus do this one to me, among others!)
- Can't choose their own speed--they'll wait until you try to pass, then match whatever you try to do, blocking you
- Usual left-lane bandit maneuver, but with a kicker--will add their late-turn tendency to it, resulting in last-second dives from the "fast" lane across your nose to exit
- Can't follow construction flaggers instructions: go when told to wait, wait when told to move, can't figure out what simple hand signals such as pointing right or left mean
- Have no idea of right-of-way: will hold up a line of traffic trying to "be nice" and wait for a car that doesn't have the right-of-way, no matter how it screws things up

I know a lot of these are seen everywhere, but they're so prevalent around here, it's like they're taught these as requirements to get their licenses!

The "Dakota Slant". I like it. :driving: :roadkill:

How about people that try and merge into highway speed lanes at 40mph immediately as they get to the top/bottom of the on ramp even though they have 3/4 of a mile to get up to speed and merge safely?

...
- Have no idea of right-of-way ...

Most of these items are exactly this.
My pet peeve is with anyone that does anything (or thinks they can do anything) that takes my right of way.
Top of my list is I've noticed lately an increasing number of drivers jumping the left turn at the end of a red before they get a clear green light. If I'm first in line and notice it happening in time I jump out slightly to scare them. (No cops around or wife in the truck. I wish I had a bigger, stronger bumper.)
Wait your turn!

I live in a college town and naturally we have a lot of horribly built rigs driving around. I hate when someone is driving around during the day with their huge LED light bar across the top of the windshield and it's on. Or they have retro'd HIDs into their fogs and feel the need to run them all day when it's sunny.

Don't get me started!!! People driving in the left lane on the interstate driving SLOW as HELL. People driving down a road doing 20-25 like they are on a Sunday drive when the speed limit (it is the speed that i think must be gone, but also a recommendation if you choose to drive safely faster) is 45.

1. Tailgaters.
2. Running red lights.
3. Horn blowing when the car ahead obeys a "no right turn on red" sign.
4. Drivers who have no clue about how to stay in their lane when making a 90 degree turn. Apparently a lot of folks think they're fine as long as their front wheels stay in their lane.

Malfunctioning lights that trip the sensor on nothing. Construction zones that exist with a low speed limit for 1mi past the end of actual construction. Drivers who can't maintain speed. Drivers who refuse to do anything near the speed limit because it's raining, snowing, etc. People who don't move their car off of the pump while they walk in to pay. People who accelerate at glacial speed. Prius owners. People who do the speed limit (or slower) in the left lane and just won't GFTO of the way! Potholes that exist for years without being fixed.

People at red lights who are going left with lots of traffic coming the other way preventing them from going left and they just sit there, don't pull out into intersection allowing people behind them to go around to go straight.

Pretty much everything that as already been said.

But in addition:

1: People that race down the 2 lane part of a road (19th for this example) to get in front of me (i am going the speed limit to 5 over) when the road goes to a single lane then go 5-10 under the speed limit then they all turn at other roads making me wait for them to turn. By the time I get to where I turn I am all by myself.

2: Scoochers at stop lights. Like come on! Just stop where you wanna stop and stay there! This has to be the most annoying thing when driving a stick or riding my motorcycle. Well that and 4 way stop scooching.

3: The other lane being totally clear, until I have to turn left and wait for one of more people. Like really, the road has been clear for miles and now that I have to turn there is someone coming.

I will stop there. Everything else has been said... I mostly hate other drivers, and where I live there are not many people. But of the people that are here, most have no idea about driving. Bozeman is a very uppidy place.

I hate people that can't go a constant speed, run red lights, tailgate me, honk at me when I am yielding to people making U-Turns (THEY HAVE RIGHT OF WAY), drive under the speed limit in the fast lane, don't use blinkers, pull right up behind me on a hill when I'm driving a stick, have HIDs in halogen housings, cut me off, and people who j walk with no hurry in their step. They speed up when they see I'm not slowing down.

That's all I can think of now, but I'm sure there's plenty more haha

Im going 60..59...57... wait someone is passing im going 75! People who have no concept of speed control.

Awesome thread!

A few of mine in no particular order.

The usual...

1-Tailgaters. Dumbasses...
2-Tailgaters IN SNOW/ICE Are you F'ing kidding me? How stupid are you?
3-Cigarette Butt Throwers. Filthy scum!
4-Cell Phone/Distracted Drivers. Yeah women, mostly you. I said it...
5-People who do not know how to tie down a load in a truck or on a trailer properly and stuff falls off. Hicks...
6-People who are too lazy to clear off all the snow and ice off their vehicle so it flies at you on the highway. Hicks...
7-When your using the cruise control then THAT person passes you, gets in front of you and starts slowing down, you have to brake. Or THAT person who is going slow, you go to pass them and they speed up. Maddening...
8-The oblivious fast lane hog Move it over f*** head!

9-Last but not least... Sure it happens everywhere, but a local Maine gem... I have driven in almost every state in the US. Mainers are by far the WORST at not using turn signals. The beauty of it is that Mainers constantly complain about how drivers from other states don't use turn signals. Massachusetts and New York especially! HIPPOCRITES! Take a look around Mainers, that vehicle that changed lanes on the interstate with no signal more than likely had Maine plates. Chances are the person from Mass. or NY used theirs...

not only in my trucks, but especially when riding my motorcycle...
ive taken thousands of dollars worth of rider training, so i can avoid these idiots, and that training has also made me super attentive of their rediculous behavior.

cell phones and txting are #1 on my list too. in Md, DC, and Va, it is full-on illegal to use them in the car w/o being fully hands free, yet i have had to alert patrol officers on a few occasions to a driver just a car away who is in full on conversation while in traffic. Not to mention almost being hit TWICE by a guy who was so loud on his phone, with the window down, i could hear him talking into it. I had to yell at him at the top of my lungs on the 2nd attempt to kill me "PUT THE FUGGING PHONE DOWN SO YOU DONT HIT ME DUMBAZZ!!!" to get his attention. Why cant people understand, its a 3000lb machine, would you use a bandsaw while talking on the phone or texting, then why do you think you can use THIS machine and do it?!?!?! And i cant tell you how many times ive been behind someone driving too slow, reacting to traffic on a delayed count. Only to get up next to them and they are deeeeep in conversation, as if Oprah was interviewing them for her next show. Get off the fugging phone and drive your fugging car!

Others...

Mr or Ms aggressive. these people who are in such a hurry that they have to weave and dodge in and out of traffic, only to be stopped at each light with the rest of us. a foot here or there, and they are an accident waiting to happen. when im in the new T4R, i cringe, but when im in my old Ford F150, i hope that they hit me, i could use a new pick up.

tailgaters when i am on my bike. when im in one of my trucks, hey, ill move over, no problem. but on my bike, i am usually doing 70-85 mph just to cruise, and they still want to come up on my rear as if i was the latest swim suit model. usually i just grab a handful of throttle and peal away...they thought 80 was fast...well, cya.

as was said before, people who want to just poke into traffic. Hey genius, didnt you see the line, didnt you see the rest of us waiting too?! well, once they come up to me, in the F150, i just dont let them in. sure, cmon over, hit me, your insurance will love me. and your brand new whatever will bend and quiver at my old school iron wagon.

people who poke the nose of their car out into traffic when pulling out of a driveway or parking lot...as if THAT is going to make someone sympothetic and let them in...but when someone saws off the front of your car, who do you think is at fault.

ive seen people eating while driving (fork and plate), ive looked drivers square in the face when on my bike, then watch them never look or signal and come right over into my lane, then get indignant when i honk at them as if I was in the wrong..sorry, ive been in this lane for a mile dummy. Anyone driving under a suspended license yet thinks they should be given a break when they break the law. And of course, anyone who is trying to kill me that day by just being a bad driver.

I may be the one of the only ones who dares to drive a lifted runner 85+ every day, but man oh man do I hate when people move out of my way at the last second, at speeds like that I'm coming in hot and I'll do the necessary course adjustments to avoid an accident. Your better off staying put and consistent or scooting over long before I decide I need to...
