I wanted some daytime LED running lights on my 04 4Runner like the newer vehicles, so I thought of this easy mod. I purchased a pair of 6-light LED bars on Ebay for about $4 for the pair including shipping. The lights are 6 inches wide and 3/4 of and inch high and come with attached red and black wires about 18 inches long. They fit perfectly just below the hood but on top of the bumper, and flush with the front of the hood grille. The lights snap in/out of a mounting bracket. I drilled two holes and mounted the brackets into the plastic with short screws using only the bottom bracket holes so the screw heads would not interfere with the hood closing. The screw heads don't interfere with light snapping into the bracket.
To connect the wires, I spliced into the DRL wires (green, white) and re-taped them. I connected the green DRL wire to the red LED, and the white DRL to the black LED. The worst part was cutting the protective sleeve around the DRL wires. I'm adding some protective sleeve material to enclose the wires again. I don't know what other years 4Rs they would fit, so you would need to measure if interested. I just checked EBAY and the light bars are still available for around $4. The lights look great in the daytime and the factory DRLs still work too. See attached pics.
