fuel line from tank to filter

I just got into this today on my 99 4runner. It spent a few years in the NE and has rust at the connections along the fuel lines. Does the line from the tank to the fuel filter need to come off to drop the tank?

I disconnected the two rubber to metal lines, but the metal to metal line going to the fuel filter is rusted. I'm using pb blaster, but will let it sit overnight before I try again. It did not want to turn today.

If I can't get that line apart then I think I'll have to replace the metal line to the filter, the fuel filter, and the line from the fuel filter to the engine area since that side is rusted as well. I didn't look to see where the next connection in that line is.

Did this today. It is the kind of thing you think will go easy, but it is slow one step at a time work. Tank was full too!

I don't really intend to try, but this is ridiculous. I finally cut the vent hose because I couldnt get it off the pipe in back of the tank, but there is another section of pipe between there and the tank that is now hung up and I can't get at it. I can't get the $#@%!!! hose off where it attached to the tank in front because I have to reach through the mother%$#@!!!! access hole which my arm barely fits in, and then I can't $#%#@!!!!! see what I'm doing so the tank is basically off but hanging. I'm going to have to %$#%$#@!!! cut the front $%#@! hose too in order to get it off, while the access hole rips the skin off my arm. This 20 minute job has taken 2 hours and I'm not done yet.

Other than that, all is well.

Yea, I got the mother%$#@! off! The bloody vent pipe is %$#@! mounted to the chassis or frame above the tank (WTF!!!), no wonder it hung up! I guess you're supposed to disconnect it through the access hatch, but unless you have tiny arms made of rubber that's pretty nigh impossible. I had to cut the front hose too, from below, once it was hanging.

Hahahahaha that's just about how I felt. I'm pretty sure I taught the neighborhood children a word or two.


I know this was an old post, but I was able to get to the vent pipe hose with some large lineman's pliers by lying almost underneath the tank, head facing front. Tight as hell, but it got the clamp, and broke the hose loose, then I just yanked that ***** off.
