Dual Battery System Question (ML-ACR)

Howdy yall!

I'm finally getting around to setting up a dual battery system using a Blue Sea Systems ML-ACR and wanted to know what the recommendation was for where I tap into the ignition line.

I want to connect the brown cable somewhere to the ignition start switch. How would I do that in a 4runner? Tap into the fuse box somehow in the engine bay?

Would love any recommendations or knowledge!

The Fog light mod taps into ignition source in the main fuse box in the engine compartment.

Not sure if that would work out well… I didn’t read into the FOG LIGHT tap too much but make sure it’s not connected to something that is always HOT, that means the start isolation feature is going to be engaged at all times. This would actually be a negative as it would force drop the 2nd battery indefinitely.

You only want start isolation energized during engine cranking. The purpose of this feature is to protect sensitive electronics on the aux battery side from voltage drops during cranking. As soon as it is energized it instantly removed the 2nd battery from the circuit.

I actually opted to not use this feature… with two batteries in parallel, there is more than enough available amperage to not brown-out equipment. Plus if you ran down the battery it’s no longer combined anyways, the aux side is already isolated from cranking. I can see why you would use it on a boat, but I haven’t come across a time where it has actually helped in in the 3-4 years of owning one.
