Duh, I just dont understand tire size stuff

Guys, I am just not getting it.

I have a 2019 T4R Off Road Premium and I am having a three inch lift put on it this next week.

Currently it has 265-70-17's

I understand that a 285 is a wider tire but will it fit on my current rims?


I am researching and studying but still don't understand how large of a tire I can reasonable put under it and not worry about having to do any further mods than the lift kit nor worry about rubbing.

a 285 will easily fit on your stock rims. might want to post a new thread in the 5th gen section asking others what sizes they run with that lift & what mods are needed.

tire sizes are very simple... the first number is how wide the tire is in millimeters. the next number is the sidewall aspect ratio, meaning how tall the sidewall is. so for a 265/70/17, the tire is 265mm wide, the sidewall is 70% of the width, & obviously is 17" diameter.

a 285 is only 20mm wider than a 265 & the sidewall is slightly taller at 70% of 285mm.

& here is a tire height chart i use a lot, helps seeing the sizes in inches to get a good idea of what those numbers mean in real life.
