Dumb Question 101

Honestly I just would like a yes or no and maybe tell me what it is but is this the lower ball joint? If so I noticed this grease on it today. I check the tie rod ends and a few other items there every few days for any leaks because I just got it 2 months ago with 220k miles because I bet it's all original down there. I checked this morning before wheeling and again now and so this just happened. I understand it's a replace ASAP part (if it's the LBJ); luckily it's not my DD.

Yeah that's the LBJ. But that grease is above it and looks a lot like the color of axle grease. I'd check your CV boots and see if they are leaking.

I haven't seen leaking on the CVs but I didn't feel inside the rubber piece either. Does that come off easily? Haven't been out to see yet. Getting unsober

It's just black grease. Also it's only on that lower nut though. Nowhere else

If the boot isn't torn there's no need to replace it. The grease isn't necessarily from the inside of the balljoint.

If those LBJ's have 220,000 miles on them I'd change them with OEM even if they aren't leaking.
