dumb question about instrument panel compass.

I read the owner's manual cover to cover tonight...

I can't seem to figure out how to turn the compass on that's next to the odometer. It's included on vehicles with NAV, according to the manual.

I paged through the display options and couldn't find it.

I did search - and found a picture of someone's dash where the compass was present. An SR5, vs my TE.

I'm not sure what to tell you. It's not in my TE either. Just in the little display above the radio. But while I was searching I did figure out how to turn off the little ECO nag light. So thanks for making me go look. :whoo:

I had to turn mine off too. It was super-distracting seeing it flash on and off. though mostly I keep it off now anyway by applying more coal. :guitar2:

Maybe it's an SR5/Limited thing and they skipped it on the trail. Weird.

I went ahead and emailed Toyota since I'm not the only one. I'll post the result in this thread.

After many emails and weeka of research the question: does a 4runner te with nav have the compass in the multi info displa the answer is:
If my fj cruiser doesnt have a compass it doesn't have a compass.

Is toyota typically so obtuse?

Just so I know, obtuse means uncaring or dumb right?

That has not been my experience with them in the past. Perhaps a little obtuse in regards to quality issues (ie cracked dash 4th gen), but as it pertains to a general inquiry, I have never felt let down by their customer service.

Compass Indicator

Go out early in the morning or late in the afternoon and position your T4 so the sun is low and hitting the driver`s window and the gauge cluster from behind.

You should be able to see outlines of all the indicators. A bright flashlight may work too. Look for the compass symbol.

I don't own a 2014 TE, but isn't the compass in the display above the 2 vents in the center stack?

On the SR5 there is only a clock in the same location, so it would make sense to put the compass in the multi-info display on the instrument cluster.

My 13 SR5 w/o Nav has the digital compass in the "center stack" (as FERAL 4R coined it). It's on the center third of that display and is always on; the "Mode" button swaps the left half of that "center stack" display from MPG to Range (miles till empty) - but the Compass is always up (as is the Temp and clock on the far right)...

Go figure...

Pic from the Manual. I guess the TE has a different use for this with the Multi Terrain Select crap? Mine matches the top pic.

Edit: The manual seems to indicate T4R's with Multi Terrain Select still have a compass (section 03_07 in the 2010 manual available on this site / page 455). I wouldn't think Factory Navigation would remove this compass function?

I do have the compass in the Information bar.
the manual states there's also a compass on the dash panel.

from looking at pics i found someone here with a trail edition that does have thisa compass.

He also had mirror turn signals so it might be a premium package deal and have nothing to do with nav like the manual says.

This SR5 has it: (Unclear if premium, but DOES have mirror turn signals)

(first pic)

I found a Trail that had it too, but I can't find it again.
The Motortrend 2014 4runner gallery has no compass.
A canadian review site had a premium - no compass.

So I'm curious... Who here has a 2014, do you have nav? Trail? Compass or no?

Does anyone know if the compass that shows on the instrument panel is directly related to the OEM stereo?
I recently replaced the OEM head unit with a new Pioneer unit and everything on the instrument panel seems to be there except for the compass. My sense of direction is pretty much none existence so having that compass on the display was a huge plus.
Any ideas how to get it back or am I SOL and just need to get the old fashion globe?
