Duplicate keys and programming after market?

I would like to get a couple copies made of both my master key and my fob.

My nearest dealer wants freaking $36 per fob and per key, plus $100+ taxes for the programming service — that fee includes up to 3 devices and is to add them to the existing programming rather than reprogramming the whole vehicle (which is fine I don’t want that).

Is it just me or are these prices #*^%|>|?? insane?

Are there any legit aftermarket sources for keys and programming? Or an easy way to do the programming myself?

Not interested in cheap crap keys that won’t be reliable. But I’d like to find somewhere else that won’t cost me $208+ tax.

There are programming instructions for keys online. They involve key in/out...open door/shut door...etc.

I only had one key for my 4Runner when I bought it. I bought two chipped key blanks through Amazon and went to the local dealer and had them cut the two blanks from my VIN. I had to show proof of ownership. It cost me a whopping $10 at the dealer to have both cut.

I just got another fob for my Tundra on Amazon for $25. It came with programming instructions that were similar (but less involved) than programming a key. Make sure the FCC ID # is correct for your vehicle.....I'm not sure about the different 4Runner models, but for Tundras, the #s are different between Access Cabs and Double Cabs.

Programming a fob yourself and a new key is pretty straightforward. Both can be done on your own for free. Just be careful which fob you get. I recently bought a flip key and when I programmed it, the fob wouldn't disarm the burglar alarm so I had to use the original fob to disarm it. I'm going to ask my local dealership to see if there is a workaround but I have a feeling that I'm going to have to pay to completely reprogram the alarm system:noidea:. This is the video that I followed to program the remote. Should be the same for any fob as well. I'll include a video on how to program the key too. Believe it is the same for any key as well.

Programming can be done with the programming instructions unless the ECU is full and no more keys can be programmed. If that is the case, you will either have to fork over the money or find a hacked version of Techstream, buy a VIM, get into the immobilizer menu and hit "reset immobilizer." Then you can program new keys to the ECU. Hopefully the ECU will accept your aftermarket keys and you won't have to do something drastic.

i would of hook you up on the programming, having the techstream software makes certain things easier,
programing keys and remotes are easy, turning on and off certain things are cool too.
