DuraTrac owners

Mine are louder than my old Nitto TG's and my current summer tires, General Grabber(red letters). But my Duratracs have studs so that always adds some noise. Even so they are not bad. But I'm driving a 80 series LC not a 4R so take it for what its worth.

If you want a quiet tire over traction I'd buy something else. Its hard to have both.

I've run them two winters so far and have been happy with wear and traction.
 
They are a lot quieter than mud tires, much louder than passenger all season tires, and somewhat louder than other LT all-terrain tires.

I have ~49,000 on mine and they have gotten a bit louder in the past few thousand miles.

Interestingly enough, they are actually loudest at 35-45 MPH.

Like the others have said they do get louder when the pressure is lower, which is a nice indicator that I need to check the pressure again!

The wife noticed the noise, but she doesn't mind it, and I actually think it helps put the new baby to sleep.

Oh, and +1000 on making sure you rotate. I don't know if it is all because of wear or because I changed to rotating every 10k since my free tire rotations are done, but they started to get louder around that time.
 
Fussy wife who basically hates anything trucklike and was afraid the road noise might be bad, hasn't noticed road noise from 265/70 R17 42-44 psi Duratracs at all. However, I do notice some noise, depending on road surface and speed. When audio is on, it's not noticeable.

How much tread do you have left after nearly 50k miles? I ran my Blizzaks for ~45k miles and they had little effective traction left toward the end. I have my summer tires on now and four e-rated DuraTracs in the garage that I can't wait to have mounted...
 
I've got about 5k on my Duratracks. There is a definite mild hum, but it's very pleasing. Nothing annoying in the least
 
Just wanted to update this thread and say that I have since gotten another alignment. As it turns out, my Toe was way off and now it rides a good bit quieter. So, needless to say, it should be noted that a bad alignment COULD cause unnecessary tire noise. I edited my original comments on this thread FYI.
 
hey you guys with 285/70/17 Duratracs, are you stock height? did you have to do any adjustments/banging/pounding to eliminate rub?
 
I realize this is an older post, but kudos for searching.

I will add that the Duratracs are very quiet.... For a tire that is as aggressive as it is. It is NOT a quiet tire overall. Louder than highway tires, and louder than all terrain tires for sure. If you're comparing them to Nokians, Goodyear AT, Firestone AT, BFG AT, etc., they are louder. And if you compare them to MT tires, they are quieter for sure.

Even though I've had some pretty serious and loud vehicles from having a DD Jeep with Super Swamper TSLs to a DD LSx with long tubes, catless exhaust and straight exhausts, having Duratracs as a DD to me was excessive. Seems counter intuitive but it was also when I wanted something loud and crazy, but if you picked a 4RUNNER over a JK, it's not because of capability, it's because of road manners and comfort. And for that purpose, I wanted something comfortable and quiet on my daily commutes and the Duratracs do not offer this.

But to each his own. I wanted to share my review because things like this are irrelevant and I felt from reading the reviews some of the owners are posting, it gives the impression that these Duratracs are like most other ATs for noise, and they simply are not.
 
Our Duratracs hum slightly at about 55-60 mph. At higher speeds, like 70-75, the hum disappears. The hum isn't obnoxious or overwhelming--it's just there. Not a problem.
 
I have 285/70 Duratracs with 5100s set at .85 in the front. I had to BMC and push the front fenders forward. There is a hum at freeway speeds. Def louder than the BFG KO
