Dynomax super turbo exhaust?

I was looking to upgrade the exhaust on my 94 auto, but am trying to avoid going over the top with it. My tail pipe is mostly gone to rust and the muffler is pretty pitted with rust. The cat and the rest of the pipe actually look pretty good, so I was just going to do a cat-back system. I'm looking for something that would be a performance upgrade over stock, but not sound/look ridiculous. I'm not finding a lot of options. Summit Racing has a Dynomax Super Turbo for $105-75 mail in rebate, bringing to the total cost to somewhere around $40 after shipping. Seems like a pretty good deal, but the sound bytes of the exhaust on Dynomax's website sound kind of crappy and didn't give me a good feel for what to expect.

Anyone have one of these and have they been happy with it? Are there some other cat-back (or other) systems I should be looking for or should I just go to the scrap yard and get another muffler and pipe?

I'm looking for the same answers. My tail pipe actually fell off. Wasnt sure if the rebate applied since I thought it said it was for cat back exhaust systems.
 
I think the rebate is actually over now. I sent my form in and stuff, but have yet to get anything back from the company. On the upside, the exhaust sounds pretty good. Like stock, but a little deeper.
 
$75 Rebate is good on purchases until 8/31/11 and summit racing has this exhaust for $105 so it would only cost tax + $30 for the system and then install costs. So it just seems to be a good deal, but not sure if its a good system or how it sounds - but for the price- im thinking about getting it.
 
I have a Dynomax super turbo for my 00 SR5 and am happy with it. a bit louder than stock, but flows better than stock.

i know mine is news but thought I would add my .02

and I paid $73 from Napa

Oops, sorry for misleading. I thought the rebate was over in July. I rushed out to buy one before the end of the month so I wouldn't miss out. Now I feel dumb that I didn't read the date right.
 
I am curious about the exhaust, is it a direct bolt on application? Are all the hangers in stock location? Or would I need to have a exhaust shop install and weld new hangers in place? Any info is greatly appreciated.
 
I just bought the Cat back system from Rock Auto myself, got it on Friday, still not installed. I went with the Walker system for $125 because it had the hangers and clamps(and a $75 rebate), then bought the intermediate pipe from the cat to the muffler, another $25 bucks or so. Also had previously purchased the front pipe and a new cat, so my whole exhaust is brand new. Only thing is the the intermediate pipe after the cat does not have a provision for an O2 sensor. Am having to purchase the adapter separately and have installed at the welders. Will let you know how it turned out.
 
The Walker is the Dynomax (same company). It does come with the clamps and hangers, but you will need to purchase the intermediate pipe. It is bolt on. They follow the stock location. You will probably need to get new rubber insulators to hang the muffler and tailpipe. I'm sure it is possible to re-use the old ones, but I had to cut them off. I found the exact same style at Oreillys for about $2 a piece.
 
I looked into putting on headers, maybe a dual exhaust, possibly replacing the crossover, but the only thing I came up with was it was gonna probably cost more than the truck is worth. Or, you would need to be a whiz with a torch, which I am not. So, except for the cat, I couldn't be happier with the price of the exhaust, and the rebate thrown in? done, I'm in.
 
Agreed, the price was awesome. I'm just hoping my rebate gets back to me soon. It will be nice to find a $75 credit in the mail one day. mikedks, was your cat in really bad shape? My 94's cat and front pipe are in great shape (the muffler and tailpipe were not) and with the new o2 sensor and cat-back I'm getting at least 19mpg every tank. Just curious as to why you replaced that too.

My exhaust system is in very bad shape, bought my 95 as a project with a bad head gasket and exhaust. Could not even unbolt the O2 sensors or intermediate pipe from the muffler. After going back and forth decided to replace the whole thing. Since i'm doing it myself in the gravel driveway with no special tools, it was easier for me to just payup and be down with it.
 
intermediate pipe

I just bought the Dynomax exhaust for my 88 V6. Is it the stock intermediate pipe that is needed? I tried mounting the exhaust today and with the existing intermediate pipe ( curved) from the cat, I had to put a 1 7/8" sleeve to connect the pipe to the new muffler. The muffler is in the stock location, but the tail pipe isn't even close to fitting in stock location. I just picked up the 4runner and it didn't have a tail pipe on it so I don't have much to go on.
 
Resurrecting an old thread, I'd like to know the answer as well. If I order the Dynomax cat back setup from Summit, what else do I need? Mine is an AZ/CA rig with no rust so I won't have to replace much.
 
I bought the exhaust from summit racing last month. I just took it to a local muffler shop that i always go to and they charged me $40 to put it on. they ended up Not using the hangers that came with it because the tail pipe would not fit right - so they made hangers for it. I think they welded it on and then used the clamps - but not 100% sure. I also had them cut some of the end tail pipe off and i put a chrome tip on the end.

Sound wise i would say i notice it but i wouldn't say its loud at all. I was looking for something with a little noise but not obnoxious. Loud to me was when the whole tail pipe up to the back of the old muffler fell off.

For ~$30 for the system after the $75 rebate i didn't think it was a bad deal at all.
