E-Brake problems, I need help

Okay guys, so yesterday as I'm at napa getting parts to do my rear brake job my E-Brake froze on me. I got in my truck and released my e-brake and it had no resistance on it. So I pulled up on it after releasing it and the e-brake pulled right to the top of its limits. I went ahead and did my brake job hoping it would fix the problem and no luck.

I attached a picture of the back side of the driver side brake. I can push it free and the e-brake will have resistance again.

Do you guys think maybe new springs will help pull it back, or all new brake cable?

you need to pull the bell crank off and lube it. very common issue.

since you're able to move it still, you should be able to get by with just cleaning and lubing it.

when they get really bad you have to just replace them.

Crap, I just researched what a bell crank is and come to find out it's the part that's incased in the rubber boot in my original post.

And the brakes need to be taken down to get easy access to....

Knew I should have researched the problem before I did my rear brakes yesterday!:ybrick:

yep. once you get it off, and get that boot off there, you'll see why its sticking.

after I get them cleaned and working smoothly, I pack some grease into that boot. its just not a very good design. if lubing it doesn't work out for you, you can just buy them. sometimes that's best...

It could be worse, the rear brake job was really easy so I was surprised how well everything went. I actually double checked all my parts and stuff because I knew something wasn't right, usually things don't go smoothly for me.....lol

Guess I was right.....:wacko:.....to good to be true!

Nevada thank you for your help, all the searches I did never brought up the bell crank as being the problem. And after reading up on it I know you are 100% right. Thank you for your quick response.
