Do you find going with the vht caliper paint is a better route than the G2 caliper paint and the Dupli-Color system?
Or is more of a personal preference?

They only had "hey look at me Red" in Duplicolor at the store! And it was 3 dollars more to boot. Yeah, it's a preference, I was in the car painting business for 30 years and no one ever agreed on brands.
 
What brand calipers did you go with? I was a little concerned about using the re-mans from Rock Auto, but the new Toyota calipers were just too much money. So far they've been fine.

Well I am right there with you, but my good friend who started his shop back when I started my body shop in 99 swears by this "centric" brand. Mainly because if he ever does have a problem, he gets replacements no questions asked. But he said since he started using this brand, he only ever had one issue, and that was bad threads at the hose fitting. So I'm hopeful. He also tried to talk me in to their rotors, because he says ALL Toyota rotors warp, it's just a matter of time. I didn't do it, but he says they will replace those too, no questions asked. If the OE rotors warp before I need pads, I'll give those a try otherwise I'll stick to the Toyota rotors. As for the Calipers, they are remans, so as long as the seals are good quality, they should be fine.

Been wondering on how the coverage is like on the vht caliper paint.
Been reading the G2 is reduced plenty. Some are not happy even with 4 coats on it. Can you update us on how the vht is like concerning coverage and opacity?
Ya, Im not too keen on the red myself. Planning to do mines in silver.

Yeah, I saw those when I was shopping. I went with the BECK/ARNLEY from Rock Auto, as they seemed to be on the upper end of the price range (so they have to be better right?!) and they were painted black. :bowl:

I stuck with OEM rotors too. I've beat on them pretty good and haven't had any issues so far.

Super light coat almost covered, then a second light coat really hid the base color. I put on one more to be sure, but two coats covered well.
 
I went with the NAPA calipers and Brembo rotors and I love it. Probably about 10k on the setup now and no issues at all.

I hadn't used them to their full potential since bedding them until a few weeks ago. Was going uphill on a 55 mph road and had probably hit the last 10 lights red. This one turned yellow and I was in that awkward spot where you can stop probably but not certainly. I floored the 4Runner to make it through, until I saw a cop sitting at the light. She went 60-0 real quick. My friend in the car thought we were gonna end up stopping somewhere in the intersection but we stopped right at the line. We were both impressed with how quick the old 4Runner slowed down haha

Are those Toyota pads in a Lexus box?
 
Toyota has switched to a Toyota/Lexus branded box to save on manufacturing 2 diffrent types of boxes
 
Gotcha, makes sense. Must have just happened as the parts for my timing belt etc all came in the old Toyota only boxes.

Funny you say that, tested my TBU against new rotors/pads on stock calipers and we had same braking distance 60-0. I was surprised. But Im guessing his will fade faster coming down the hills.

Well I don't pay retail, so I did pretty well.

$130 for the calipers, no shipping but they did deliver.
$226 for Rotors Pads and Shim kit.
$18 for Paint and cleaner.

Oh and I had some Corvette 4 piston calipers I used as cores!
