Easy question - tire wear

I'm still a relatively new owner and haven't seen this discussed anywhere...

Does the front or the rear wear tires faster? Reason I ask is that the weight is over the front but the rears are the drive wheels so I'm not sure. Currently my rears are more worn and I'd like to know if I need to rotate.

assume correct alignment, stock weight, mostly in 2wd on highway usage

Rule of thumb is the tires that have the power will wear faster. So the rears in your case.

Oh, depending on your driving habits, rotate every 3000 to 5000 miles. I rotate and balance the ones going to the front at every oil change.

Relative wear rate depends on driving habits but each will wear differently. The drive tires will tend to wear in the middle and the steer tires on the shoulders so, yes, definitely rotate.

Driving habits definitely affect tire wear. Every day I turn left onto the highway while quickly accelerating to 70mph. After work, I always approach my car on the drivers side. When I finally noticed, my passenger front tire was almost bald due to heavy acceleration into the turn. Returning home I slowed before the turn off of the hwy; no ramp, just a right turn.

None of the other tires had near as much wear. They were purchased with the car used but appeared to have even wear initially.

Needless to say, I turn onto the hwy then accelerate now. :zoom:
