Echo on the other end when using Bluetooth on the JBL system on 2019 TRD Pro

Everyone I talk to hears an echo of themselves talking. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it? I am using an iPhone XS Max. Found a thread online with a recent issue with Camry’s but not seeing much info with 4R’s.

This is fairly common but it has nothing to do with JBL audio, FYI. This is all about Bluetooth, which is pretty crappy unfortunately.

I have had Bluetooth connections to 7 other vehicles, including 3 Toyota’s and have never had this issue before.

Turn your audio volume down and see if that solves it

It helps but does not eliminate and then is hard to hear the other party. Must be an isolated issue since no one else is having the problem.

Weird. Happened to me today also. I have had my 2019 about 3 weeks, but this may have been my first call in it.

I've had people complain about the echoing in our '15 Ltd. as well, it may have been worse with the iphone plugged into the USB to charge, but I never got around to doing any real testing of this theory.

2019 TRD Pro. I phone X. No audio problems. You've updated the s/w on the head unit? If not give that a whirl.

This might have been covered, but how does one go about doing this? I have a Canadian market '15 Ltd. w/ JBL non-entune head unit if it makes a difference.

You have to get the entune app and an account on your phone and then connect to the head unit ... at that point if the truck's head unit s/w is out of date it will download an update using your phone.

I bought a 2019 a few weeks ago and the head unit needed an update.

Mine is non-Entune I believe (I don't think Canada got Entune), maybe it's not able to be updated the same way?

Huh. If that's the case, I think it's prob something to ask the dealer about - or maybe there is a thread somewhere on the forums about how to update.

That was probably the pandora and other app dump. Not sure there are many tech fixes in it.

I just got my 2018 4Runner - Limited, 3 days ago. The echo issue is on my 4Runner too and we use Android and Apple phones. We DON'T have this echo issue with our Hyundai nor any of the rental vehicles we use (we travel a lot in business). I work with phone systems in my business starting from POTS/TDM into VoIP. With everything else Toyota does so well, this is really surprising (in a bad way) that they would roll out a product like this. Of all the vehicles I run through at Hertz or National car rental, this top end Toyota system is the worst I've heard. If I had pared my phone with it during the test drive, it would have been a deal breaker. I'm not being hyperbolic.

I will try the software upgrade and let you know how it works out.

I have a 2018 Limited bought in July 2018, immediately had the echoing and called Toyota, they put in for a head unit swap, seemed to work for a little bit, and now back to really bad echoing. Just did an update when at the dealer couple weeks back for service. Still no help. Ridiculous for the price of these vehicles.

2019 TRD Pro Phone Echo

New to the forum, please forgive any use errors on my part.
I downloaded the ETune App and the problem with the echo remained. I discovered that the echo only occurs when the phone, (iPhone XS Max), is resting on the center console; if I put the phone in center storage, or in my pocket, the echo goes away. It seem the microphone on the phone is not disabled when using Bluetooth. Solved the problem for me, hope it helps.
