Eclipse AVN 2454

I can't reply from experience, becuase I don't actually have the unit, but I've heard wonderful things about it. I was planning on buying this for my 4Runner which I finally picked up 2 weeks ago, but I am going to hold off.

Eclipse just showed off the improved model (AVN5495) at the 2005 CES Show, and it is much improved with a 30gig jukebox hard drive as well as higher 5V preouts. It will probably be bumped in price, but I am going to hold out. My local Eclipse dealer is saying possibly May for a release date. From what I have heard they have also prewired the unit for it somehow to be functional with the steering wheel audio controls we currently have in our trucks which is pretty sweet as well.

I was looking at this unit as well. My only fear\question is does it actuall fill the whole dash? Or will a trim ring have to be fabricated for this?

I was told it is set up for all toyota double din units and its a straight plug in. I want one but don't want to spend 2k for it.
Magnolia Hi-FI carries it.

so does this mean that most of the Eclipse double din decks are a direct swap/plug and play cause ive just bought a Eclipse AVX 2494 and want to install it without doing any modds. BTW i have the JBL 10 speaker system. Does that mean i can just uninstall the stock deck and install this avx 2494 with out buying a factory wiring harness? anyone know?

Thats what the sales guy at magnolia hi-fi told me, but I would double check on that before install. Try calling Eclipes tech line.
If you do install it let us know if it is a straight plug-in and how everything works.
Goodluck

That doesn't sound right to me... I only know a little about car audio, but I've never heard of an aftermarket that was a direct replacement...well at least without needing a wiring harness adapter.

Also, from reading in these post...the JBL, which I also have ;(, does not have an aftermarket wiring harness available. You have to actually cut into the factory wiring. That's the main reason I don't have a new stereo yet.

I will be installing a 2454 in my dads Forester Turbo next weekend. I'll let you all know how it goes. He got his for $1700 off ebay. Al&eds had them on sale for $1800 a few weeks ago.

I never heard of a aftermarket unit using the same plug as a factory harness either. The dimensions are 7"W 4"H 6 1/2 D for the 2454. Use that to measure and see if it fits without a kit.
