Ecotechne roof rack GROUP BUY!!!

I have been speaking with FedEx for approximately a week since my rack has been getting scanned frequently but hasn't actually moved since the 25th of Aug. FedEx informed me today that the facility in Caracas is beyond their actual capacity and the limited number of flights in and out are essentially not allowing them to change that. They told me that the informed the shipper that that would be extremely long wait times and that information should have been passed along. They said don't expect the rack to move to Caracas any time soon and once there, I should expect similar delays. Ecotechne has bee responsive via email but I would have cancelled my order had I been presented with the details FedEx indicated that should have been provided to the shipper.

This is just great. I plan on going on a 2 week overland trip to the west coast, hitting up some of the big national parks along the way. I will not be able to have a RTT unless I fork out more money now for another rack system. This sucks.

With just under 12 weeks until we leave on our westward expedition, I decided last night to pull the plug on this buy. I could not bare the lack of communication and being left in the dark on something that I handed money over for. I am in sales and communicating with the customer, whether its great or it sucks, is always top priority.

I hope everyone waiting gets some sort of news, updates, or communication on your purchase soon. I for one have things set in motion that hinge on a roof rack being in place by a certain time.

Hey guys, so I personally emailed [MENTION=109477]Rorck[/MENTION] about the shipping issue (10th batch) and he responded with this (9/28):

"Good evening Carlo, first id like to apologize for this shipping ordeal between Ecothechne and FedEx. Ecotechne came up with a solution to ship the racks again through DHL and they will ship a whole shipment on Monday through DHL. The shipment should be here within 5 business days and at that point ill start distributing them. Again, I'm really sorry about the whole shipping ordeal but once FedEx took possession of the racks it was out of our control. If you run into any questions don't be afraid to contact me."

I didn't email Rorck but I also received an email from him on the 28th and here's what I got:

Well, should I start worrying since I’m in the 10th batch, haven’t received anything close to a tracking number or an email with an explanation of what’s going on? Should I dispute the charges now?

man....I read this entire thread trying to be optimistic. Seems like its not going to get better. Question though for those who have received theirs. From payment to arriving, how long did things take on average? Not sure why I am asking because it looks as if this thing has fallen off the rails.

I think the truly sad part is that it's been so long since [MENTION=109477]Rorck[/MENTION] has posted anything on this thread.

This rack looks really nice. Scrolling through the posts though, and it sounds like the company is done? Probably will go with a BajaRack Spy rack. Gobi's look nice, but it sounds like you wait forever for them too.

I don't think Rorck has posted in over a month and at least a few folks have opened disputes with Paypal...I'd definitely look elsewhere.

So I replaced all the nut and bolt ecotechne provided because of rust. I ordered what most people ordered the black oxide countersink ones.

Took my half a day to replace nut and bolts and install tray. This morning I noticed the black oxide countersink nut starting to rust also....anyone have this problem?

Will post pics at a later time.

black oxide pretty much rusted right away for me.
if you want black and more rust resistance, you want phosphate coating, but even that is limited in how long it'll last.
