While I still don’t think the wind noise is horrible, I am getting a significant hit on my mileage. Even granny driving (<2000 RPM at cruise) I’ve dropped 2 MPG easy.

Got My 10th Batch

Hi All,

I was in the 10th batch and received by rack last week. I haven't mounted it and probably wont until spring. A Couple things to call out.

1. Was very well packaged
2. All pieces look straight and unbent
3. Powder coating is marked up and bare steel is visible in a few small spots similar to other photos so I wont add mine.

I'm not sure, I'd like to play with the faring. I think the noise (and significant drag) may be coming from the light bar notch in combination with the air forced through the gap between the top of the vehicle and the bottom of the faring. I spent a significant amount of time with my hand through the sunroof and reaching into those spaces on a recent long highway trip and it seems a combination of the two to me.

I used to be able to get 22 miles a gallon on a long trip. Then I did a lift, tires, added a bumper and rack and now the best I can do is 17.5-18.3 driving 68 MPH / <2000 RPM. The biggest MPG hit came from the rack.

Another member had the following done to his to create a bigger wind fairing that seems to block both the area under the normal fairing as well as the light bar mounting option. But I'm not sure if he said it fixed 100% of the wind noise and/or improved his MPG.

I have decided not to use my V2, if anyone is interested. It was locally powder coated ($200), comes with the black hardware ($55) and a metal front fairing, and extra bar & tray. Sacramento area. $950.

I have the slim Lightbar I purchased from Kustom 54 Lighting and do not have any noise what so ever(I do run MT tires and with them being some of quietest in the market they are where I get all of my noise).

Wind noise is relative

Alright, I’ve spent the last two days riding around North Carolina in my brothers 2016 Tacoma Off Road and his interior cabin noise is loud as f**k! He has the same tires as I do, Icons and a Yakima roof rack and I’m telling you that my 4Runner is a sound isolation chamber by comparison.

I'm sure it's possible, this guy made some covers on his V1 rack. You just need the skills or have access to someone that has the skills.

I wanted to make some simple covers for the light mounts on my rack before i send it out for powder . Here are some pics of what i came up with.

A simple test would be to duct tape it tight and smooth with overlapping pieces going front to back and going for a drive.
