That sucks to see this. We were considering this ladder but I think we'll pass at this point.

I apologize if this has already been answered in this thread but is there a way to attach the BajaRack Ladder to the ecotechne roof rack? We love our rack but looking at alternative ladders. :juggle:

Any of you guys have issues with the width of the crossbars? I find mine to be too wide at around 4" which make it hard for some clamp style mounts to be put on (i.e. Yakima snowboard racks and rtt)

If so, what were your solutions to this problem, if any. I was planning to go to my local welder and get some made to fit better for my needs.

I would really like to hear what are some owner's thoughts(long term use). This is my 2nd post in the forum so please go easy on me. If my questions are a little repetitive, I would like to first apologize.
1. How bad is the wind noise compare to Baja or Gobi? (Some say just quiet and some stated horrible)
2. Rust Issue. (Saw a couple post about rusting bolts/nuts and ladder; I live in SoCal but I venture a lot)
3. What's the mpg hit?
The reason why I am asking is because I was leaning towards Gobi, but due to the wait time and price and almost everyone has one(bandwagon). I was thinking maybe getting this would be better in terms of style (I like how it looks and the slimness of the rack) and also pricing. I know I will end up getting an awning and a RTT in the future but this will be my first mod on my 4runner.

I have had this rack for about 6 months now? Maybe a little less..

The powder coat sucks. It's really brittle and peels off. I am trying to be proactive by using Rustoleum flat black primer/paint when I notice the coating is wearing. That will prevent rust if you stay on top of it.

Mounting options aren't amazing, but if you're creative and can hack/bend/drill steel or aluminum you'll figure something out.

Wind noise is moderate at highway speeds. I just turn up the radio.

I didn't notice an MPG hit at all - but had already taken a couple MPGs down after installing a lift and bigger wheels/tires.

Lead time is good, getting out of the country is the long wait.

Styling is fantastic, in my opinion. This rack is STURDY as hell and only around 80lbs. Light bar mounting is pretty straightforward if you know how to use a measuring tape.



If I did it again I'd have a hard time choosing between a Prinsu and Ecotechne at this point. Overall I'm satisfied, and sans a few quirks this is a really good rack.

I replaced the u-bolts with straight, stainless steel bolts. Used fender washers and nylock nuts. Works great.

I had one of the few first in country. The updates they did were a plus. I have no use for the four pod pockets the first gen like mine came with. I’m going to pull it, weld in plates and refinish it. Yeah, the powder coating is horrible. The hardware is junk and rusts.

But the style is nice, lots of compliments. About to put my RTT on it. I don’t imagine it won’t handle it, it is sturdy.

I’d go prinsu if I was doing it over. I even had this rack sold but my wife loves the looks so much she wound let me do it after I showed her the prinsu. So I’d say...if you love the style it can’t be beat. If you want bolt on and accessories galore and you are not handy, look elsewhere.

Skip the ladder and get a Gobi if you must have one.

I wonder if it's possible to ship it bare metal and then powdercoat here? I've got a great guy for powdercoating. I'd also likely swap the hardware out for stainless.

Otherwise it sounds like I'll have to get everything sandblasted if I decide to order!

That would be ideal but trust me, the finish is s weak you could blast it quick it should cost much as you’d want to prep it good anyway which a good PC guy will do anyway.

Yeah good point. Besides, with the time they spend in transit they'd probably get a lot more surface rust if they were bare metal.

Exactly! Good luck and hey, let us know how it turns out. I’m going to pull mine off and refinish them this year. It isn’t because of failure, they are holding up but because I know it’s junk PC and I want them to last like my metal tech and other US made products. They put good PC on!
