ECU Location on 2002 4runner

I am a newbie with a 2002 4runner, and I Have the check engine lights along with VSC TRAC and TRAC OFF signs on. I am trying to locate the ECU, so I can go to AUTO ZOne to get a read-out.

Ay information on where the ECU is located would be greatly appreciated.

You should find the port under the dash on the right side just in front of the gas pedel mounted vertical. At least thats where it is on my 02. Also from what I have found out from this site is that anytime the CEL comes on so does the VSC Trac and VSC off lights. Mine just went off also. When you get your code you can search in on this thread. Good luck.

I am new to the having a 4 runner. It’s a 2002 4Runner sr5. I bought it a few months ago and i have replaced the throttle bottle, 02 sensor and speed sensor. My speedometer dosent work, I’m getting code p0500, brake light is on, abs,trac, vsc and AB’s light are on. Can anyone help me? I took it to the dealer and they said it could be the brake system but they didn’t do a thorough diagnostics. Just started having me change out parts. I’m thinking it could be the ecu? What do y’all think?

Unlikely ecu. I think you have several issues going on. By any chance, you brake lights are not all leds as if no normal bulbs left in the system it can throw the abs light. If abs on the vbs will be and if cel thrown it kills both vsc and abs in the 01 and 02.

Here's a screengrab from the Factory Service Manual to help you get on the right track. P0500 is a very odd code that I've only heard of issues on Tacomas since they have a different speed sensor. I'd post the full PDF for the diagnostic procedure but for some reason the forums don't let me do that anymore.

Not sure. I am looking for a wire harness for a 96, 4x4 AT, 6cyl 3.4. If anyone has one and is anywhere near Rifle CO it would be so much appreciated. Have had a hell of a month.
