Effective alarm solution?

I am here to ask based on every one's experience what kind of alarm has been effective for car theft deterrence? I have a stock 2006 4Runner in which I installed the Ravelco kill switch - no alarm (other than what comes standard in the toyota). So far, no attempts have been made on it and I am assuming maybe it's because everything is stock and nothing really "sticks out." Anyway, now that I am considering upgrading the stereo I am worried the kill switch won't be enough. I park the runner in an uncovered lot that has a basic gate. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Is a kill switch any good on a car with chipped keys and a smart immobilizer system ? I thought they had completely stopped car thieves.

A good loud alarm that goes off when they are picking it up with a tow truck might be a good idea.
