i got this 92 v6 from my uncle because it won't pass emissions, so i figure since it's already polluterific (and since i won't be driving it that much), i might as well rip out some potential problems, starting with the EGR valve. now you see it:
and now you don't:
the vanquished foe:
i still don't have license plates yet so i can't take it for a test drive, but it fired right up and idles great with no codes. for those who are curious, the basic procedure is:
1) rip out EGR valve (7 bolts, some are tough). and since the delivery tube goes like 10 inches into the intake manifold, i had a hard time wrestling it out and ended up just hacking it off with my angle grinder.
2)fabricate some block off plates. i used 1/8" thick aluminum, and just used the gaskets as templates to hack them out with my grinder. they don't need to be perfect.
3)cover the big holes and plug the vacuum lines with some screws.
i didn't realize it at the time, but the angle i chose for the pics hides the plates i made, but they're pretty ugly so it's all right. they work, that's all that matters.
when i get home today i'll rip out the egr vacuum regulator and clean up some of the vacuum lines that i don't need anymore.
is there anything else i can rip out without causing problems? there's a ton of vacuum lines, and i hate vacuum lines, so i'm game to try stuff.
