Electric Fan Into Airbox......

x2 :nono:

well maybe the weight reduction of his wallet losing $50

A-hew a-hew, seriously you don't have to post your oppionion, oppionion time is over I asked for that before I ordered the fan.,

which by the way was 36$ shipped and I can find other uses for it of this does work out

I do, actually thats why most of my posts here are so badly written, its from my iphone...

And I actually do have the Dynolicious and was planning on using it but don't really believe its too acurate, but its accurate enough for before and afters..

dude, that thing is more accurate than you'd think...as long as you get the setting of the weight as close as possible, you should have a pretty damn accurate reading.

my buddy used Dynolicious in his EVO when he was actually AT the track. The app came within .2 of his time slip on every aspect. It's pretty amazing technology...

well to me that would be like saying a supercharger won't work cause engine has to turn it. An e fan doesn't help cause it create resistance on alternator..

I think it's about effeciency.. Alternator is already turning so it's a little more effecient plus this fan can't draw much..

Fair enough... Let us know how it works:D

I got the fan in today and this thing BLOWS!!! IN A GOOD WAY..

However I was too busy washing removing scratches and sticky tape from my trim removal and then waxing and removing other things and i needed some bolts so Ill have to get some tomorow..

sweet! can't wait to see some dynolicious tests...why dont you go tonight and run a few control passes to get an accurate comparison

oh! take some pics of it installed too!

I will it's the most powerfull computer fan I could find. If it doesn't work I'll easily unbolt it and find a better use or put it on eBay and I'm sure it will sell I think this model is pretty popular.. Might have results by 7am. I work nights and dint get off till 5 and there's a home depot near by so I'll just wait for them to open. Get the bolts and head home..

can't wait to see the results!

Ok I know I promised results but where gonna have to wait till tomorrow soonest weekend latest..

I half assed everything because im soo tired and did take it for a spin..

Heres all Im going to say..

If more air is better and a simple turbo or supercharger can push air, this thing can PUSH AIR!! I mean lots of it.. I mounted it on outside of deckplate [will relocate to inside so that deckplate can be used when offroading and all electronics are protected] I plugged the orinigal intake hole and when I opened it back up after the the pressure from the fan blew the plug deep into the orininal intake.. Which means..

1. I need a new pug and
2. This thing creates some pressure!!!

I mean when you hook this thing up it takes a good 6 seconds for it to spool up and it makes a awesome whine, almost like a constant turbo charger just not as loud or intense.

Only thing preformance wise that I will leave you guys... or you guy INY4Runner..... with is that

A. the engine deffinatly idled diffrently when fan was switched on.
B. I believe RPMS were lower at cruising speed of 65.

I will hardwire this whole thing up soon with a switch too, and will post all results..

Here is the stock results of the dyno.. Remember this may not be accurate as I didn't have perfect weight or drive train loss % but if all other variables are constant other than the fan we should have something to go from..
THIS IS WITHOUT ECT POWER.

RPMs lower at 65mph? Isn't that determined by the gearing? I don't see how this "FI" could change that.

well I always watched this number closely rpm running at 50mph and 65 mph and i do know it has dropped once before and has stayed there, it was a morning after i changed the spark plugs, did the throttle bypass mod, and cleaned my throttle body. Im sure it had to do with the spark plugs but I can't be sure honestly cause I did them all at once and then noticed the drop. Yes its very slight but I do notice these things.

So is this some kind of poor man's supercharger?

I'm not an engineer but wouldn't putting more air into the airbox result in a "leaner" condition, i.e. more air for the same amount of fuel?

Absolutely correct! Leaner= higher combustion temps and EGT's!
