Electrical gremlins / instrument cluster

I have a '97 4runner. The other day my turn signals just stopped working out of the blue. I checked the fuses on the inside panel and found that the 10 amp fuse labeled turn singals was blown. Ok easy enough... I replaced the fuse and the turn signals now work correctly.

However, the problem is now the lights on my entire speedometer instrument cluster are totally out. Here's a weird thing though... when a turn signal is activated, the entire instrument cluster lights flash in unison with the turn signal! Very odd.

I've checked all the other fuses and they look normal. Any ideas on this one?

Thanks for any advice.

That sounds like the funniest thing. Sorry. My first thing would be to check to make sure all the wires behind the box aren't interfering with one another.

yea sounds like one of the plugs had over heated/melted and cause the blinker power supply to contact the rest of the cluster wires. odd.

good luck with the hunt!

OR check the light bulb holders.

Remove all the turn signal lights and turn on the turn signal. Off again and add one bulb at a time to find out what holder is making a short circuit.
