Electrical issue help

the 4runner is a 03 v8 sr5 4x4, 57k miles (older lady owned it before me)

this morning when i went out to get in the 4R, the keyless entry remote would not work (batteries in the remote are brand new, 2 weeks old) so i get inside the 4R and when i start the car, All radio presets are reset, the clock was reset, and now the rear wiper and rear defrost do not work. everything else is working fine.

the 4R has never been in an accident, and it has never been in deep water or anything off road (yet) for that matter.

Do any of yal have any ideas on what may have caused the whole 4R to basically "Reset" and then prevent the rear wiper and defrost to stop working?

On the defrost button, it will not even illuminate on the dash when pressed.
The rear wiper will not function on any setting, nor will the rear washer fluid sprayer work.

the 4R is 100% bone stock

I don't know all the quirks of the Runner yet, but I'd start with the battery. Easy and quick check.

I'd 2nd the battery! How old is the battery? I would suggest getting the battery tested and go from there.

Yes, Battery and the terminals.
Make sure their clean and the connections are unable to move tight.

the 4r cranks over, starts and runs just fine, negative terminal was just a tad loose, but if everything else is working, shouldnt the rear wiper/defrost also work?

Im going to check fuses tomorrow when i get to my folks house, as its currently storming outside.

Make sure rear window is all the way up even if it is down just a touch rear defrost wont work and probably wiper too.

Sounds like the voltage dropped too low when the vehicle started which basically reset everything. Try rolling the rear window all the way down then all the way up. Same for the drivers window and sunroof. You may want to have that battery load tested or at least watch it with a DVM when you start the vehicle. Also, check the terminals and also the grounds that come off the body.

When you disconnect the battery (loose terminal) it resets all the automatic/other functions associated with the windows.

Lower your rear window all the way, then raise it all the way. If you have auto up or down features on any of your windows (driver, sunroof, rear) you'll need to do this with all of them. It "resets" the window position so the car knows it's not going to spray washer fluid in through an open rear window, etc.

After you finish doing that everything should work normally.

you guys were correct! had to cycle the rear window all the way down then back up, everything works as it should now...

at least it was not a real problem.

Just remember that you'll have to do this anytime the battery gets disconnected. I know the first time it happened to me I was freaked out but thankfully the guys on the forum are here to help!
