Dude! You're local. And I see you have a fun "toy" you also drive. Sounds like a fun chassis. I'm into the local amateur road racing club, NASAAZ. It's such a blast to be able to open up your car without worrying about pedestrians, other cars, and especially cops. I have a dedicated Miata I've been building the past few years, as my track toy.

You mean there's a modified car scene in Phoenix? Haha, ever since I moved down here all I've ever seen is lifted trucks and hardly any modified cars.

I would love to do that, but my car is still back in Michigan unfortunately. I'm unsure of when I'll get the chance to get it out here (that's even if I stay out here).

I appreciate the offer though! If you're ever down to wheel though, I'd be down for that............when it gets cooler of course!

Purchase and installed an already-black grill off of Amazon for a decent price. Fit was great. I originally tried to plastidip my original grill, but I did not like the rubbery and tacky feel of the plastidip. Oops. This looks much better though, OEM look/feel to it.

I replaced it in anticipation of my new bumpers which will be powder-coated in black. Build times from both fab shops were right... 6-8 weeks out :bored:

Front Bumper: Addicted Offroad Plate
Rear Bumper: CBI Hybrid w/ partial swing away tire carrier (with a few custom goodies sorted on it)


I saw the RPMFab ad in the local FB group. Then I saw it hit their website when I was in the final stage of deciding on a bumper. I looked at that one, 4x innovations, and the AOR plate as my final options. To me the AOR is the better looking, IMHO. But what had me sold other than looks and a solid reputation, is their bumper is allegedly the lightest weight between those 3. Since the AOR was about the same price shipped as the local RPMFab, it was a no-brainer for me. I've been drooling over the AOR plate bumper for a couple of years now. Probably would have gotten it anyways, even if it was the heaviest.

I'm really stoked for the rear to come in. I can get my spare tire out of my cargo area finally. CBI is doing a partial/shorter swing arm for the tire carrier, and I'm having the smaller triangular mount (as opposed to the big panel) to mount the tire to. Tire/mount will be offset to passenger side for better visibility. Maybe better weight distribution too?

The other custom work they are doing is they are adjusting the rear-most and lowest tube, for the Rickashay (spelling?) mod with some tighter angles on that bar. In my head it seems like it's going to come out pretty great, but I'm anxious to see how the final product looks powder coated and mounted on my 4Runner.

I was out at Sonoran Steel on Saturday, chatted with Steve for a little bit. Picked up these poly body mounts in preparation for the rear bumper.

P.S. I kid you not, literally as I was typing this out, I got the FedEx shipment notification from Addicted Offroad! It'll be here Thursday.
 
My new bumper arrived today! I wasn't planning on test fitting it until the rear bumper gets here too, but damn, now that I see it in person I don't think I can hold out long.

I'll weight the new one when I get the stock bumper off, so I can compare the net increase. That said, it felt lighter than I expected it to be. It's still heavier than stock, but I expected heavier.
 
Took the 4Runner in for some maintenance:

*Transmission fluid flushed
*Brake fluid flushed and bled
*AC Service

Performed at 209,6xx miles
 
Finally got around to replacing my PCV valve. This quick job on my lunch break turned into a big inconvenience. Not only did the PCV valve break, but the brittle hose did as well. Had to ride my bike to O'Reilly's, in 105 degree weather, for hosing. Of course they didn't have the size I need so I had to improvise until I could get some properly sized hosing at a different auto parts store.

All that said, the valve grommet never crumbled! I'll take a hot bike ride to the store, over digging for pieces of brittle rubber in my valve cover any day.

Great work on your rig. I just picked up a 2000 SR5 and plan on doing a lot to it... time and mula permitted, but I'll be checking out your thread as I go.

I spent some time this weekend getting this thing on. Most of the time went into getting the original bumper off and then getting those end plates carefully cut off the frame. There's still some finish work to be done, gonna paint the desert dune color behind the bumper black so it blends in more, and then get my new turn signals wired up once those arrive. After that, it'll be ready for powder coat once my rear gets in too and can ideally get it all into one batch.

Yes! I finally got to use my transmission jack more than the one other time which I originally purchased it for lol. Made mounting the bumper and lining it all up very easy.

It was more work than I anticipated to get this on. I have a lot more respect for anyone that chooses to attach an aftermarket steel/aluminum bumper to their rig.

Can't wait to get it powder coated. For now I'll enjoy riding raw and the occasional WTF look I've been getting.
 
Bumper looks great! I almost went with an Addicted, but I'm super happy with the RPM.

You gonna go to the AZ 4Runners monthly meet tomorrow night?

RPM is a good looking bumper, and seems really stout too. Awesome choice! No, I'm not going. Busy day-to-day schedule keeps me at home pretty often. Guess I'm starting to get old lol.

Thanks! I like how the wheels look on there too. It's going to really transform the look and feel of the rig, once the bumpers are all on and powder coated black.

Oh man, that tic toc. You're so close, can't wait to see an update when you get it on!

Getting that parts shelf cleared out slowly but surely. Had a friend come over and we put on new braided stainless Stop Tech brake lines. I also switched to OEM pads (13WL Tundra) because the Hawk's dust was just too epic for me, after I got those pretty wheels on. I also purchased and installed the OEM shim kit for the pads.

In my opinion rotors are pretty cheap so I replaced the rotors with the exact same Centric blanks but new. I prefer to not turn rotors since again they're not too expensive. I use Centric blanks for my road race track build. They're the shiz.

I didn't take progress pics as I installed because it's already on T4R and I was feeling lazy in the monsoon heat/humidity, but did get a couple of pics mostly after the job was done.

I bed in the brakes as best I could without a race track on tap lol. The truck stops at least as well as the Hawk's from what I can tell. Hopefully the dusting is a bit more relaxed than the Hawks's too.

UPDATE (11/30/17): I've had the OEM pads on for a while now and am pleased to report they barely dust at all, especially in comparison to the Hawks. They are also less noisy when cold. After having some seat time with both pads, I think the Hawks have a slight advantage on stopping power over OEM. But just slightly noticeable. However, if that is true, the stopping power for OEM is still immense with the Tundra Brake Upgrade and more stopping power than I need, even when towing. So to me, in the end, I'd recommend OEM pads in comparison to the Hawks.

Did you put on a Centric Stop Tech rear SS brake line as well? Did you find that it was long enough?

I did not.... I got a currently unknown brand rear braided stainless extended rear brake line that came with the Sonoran Steel 1.2 kit. That has been on there since I lifted the vehicle almost 3 years ago. For helpful reference it's on page 1 of this build thread as a modification.

From what I recall an extended rear brake line is near mandatory for lifting the rear. I know more shops than Sonoran Steel offer it, but vote with your dollar and check out what Steve @ SS has to offer.
 
Today I hit the 2 month mark since I ordered my rear bumper from CBI. Just got off the phone and they haven't gotten to it yet, and "3rd gen is scheduled to be cut next week". They are BACKED UP. Kinda frustrating, but hopefully a sign of a good busy company with awesome products. I hope it's worth the wait, I think it will be.
