My e-brake has not worked since I bought my 99 SR5 last year. The lever is loose so I figured the cable was disengaged somewhere and have not worried about it much since Iowa is flat. I had the oil changed and asked my mechanic to check the e-brake situation and he said it was "froze up" but said it wasn't an issue and to not do anything about it.
Now is seems that after I go in reverse then shift into drive, the truck hesitates as if the brake is engaged. So I shift into low and it goes forward then shift into drive and it rolls fine. Would it be possible that the reverse action is causing the e-brake to engage? Also, I get about 13-14 mpg with a 3.4 V6 mostly street driving around town. I'm wondering if that e-brake isn't partially engaged all of the time.
Has anyone run into this problem?
