Emergency Preparedness & your EDC bag

isn't all of this stuff just common sense? i have a vast majority of this stuff incase i put it into a ditch or break down out on some dirt road 100 miles from the nearest town, or the power goes out or national disaster happens...

or say like a tree falling on your rig?... or was that the national disaster?
-sorry low blow i know, i couldnt resist glad your ok and no one got hurt or worse.


for me i carry 3 556 mags, 5 pistol mags, 70% of my recovery gear -to self recovery if i do get stuck. i have a WALK(warrior aid & litter kit) that i typically take on road trips or SAR missions. a smaller med kit that i custom put together, with everything one would need to do a field expedient surgery(minus the narcotics)-the wife is an OR nurse, i have 4 or 5 MREs, a small hatchet, pitchwood, and diesel wood chips, vs17 panel, MSR miniworks filter along with 2 liters of bottled water, 2 army wool blankets with 2 fleece blankets, a portable ham radio, two LED flashlights, with strobe feature, road flares dry warm cloths... the list could go on. basically i dont plan on leaving the vehicle, its shelter, its a PLS(place last seen) so yeah. but if for some reason i had to ditch the vehicle im sure i could quickly consolidate items to take with.

I just realized how far behind I am. I need to get a lot of gear together. I may have to buy my old Tahoe back to tow behind the 4Runner to carry it all!

Biggest problem is storing water during the winter here in the Northeast. Freezing/expansion will split any container I can think of. Not even sure of which ammo....223? .40 cal? selection of 20Ga. (buck, bird and slug)?

I had a partner back in the early 70's...just back from VN. He suggested that, in the field, you don't need anything that you can't eat, drink or kill with.

Sorry guys been away too long. sgt. rock what about military style metal containers 3/4 full will they hold up? I recently switched my bag to a maxpedition Falcon 2 the bag that my first bag was a knock off of. Must say 100x better quality but Condition 1 was a great bag if your on a budget. I turned it into a first out medical bag for the 4runner. Will post some pics up tonight when get laptop out iPad is a pain to get them up fullsized.

Thread revival! I wanna start putting together a 72-hour Bug Out Bag..I like all the suggestions here...what kinda bags are you guys using? What size bag should I look for? How many pockets? I was thinking of an old Navy Seabag but that's only got one way in and one way out so maybe a regular duffle bag? I see some of you are using smaller backpacks, how do you fit everything you need in them? What about some kind of MOLLE system to attach a second bag of med supplies?

Sorry took so long man have you got a bag yet? I have on similar to link I will put below from cheaper than dirt. Has been a great bag have lots of goodies in it some might have to dump if need be but if working out of 4runner rather have it and not need it need it and not have it.:help:

Hope everyone has been doing well changed my bag to the maxpedition falcon 2 the condition one served me well but was a knock off and started coming loose at a few seems sewed it up turned it into the 4runner first out med bag. Being a new year thought I'd post back up see if anyone added something new to the EDC bag that you won't go without again etc?.... I added the hide away Velcro maxpedition holster with spare mag holder attaches in space for water bladder. Will hope on laptop later to upload some pics. Stay safe :thanks:

Nice! After going to a few EDCs, every other rave just doesn't seem to even get close to comparing to the craziness/fun of EDC

- Wallet with plenty of cash, emergency use only credit card, couple bandaids, alcohol prep pad, drivers license, medical cards/info, etc...
- Buck Vantage folding knife (BUCK)
- Fenix PD32 flashlight (Fenixlight Limited)
- Leatherman Surge multi-tool (Surge - Leatherman Multi-Tools)
- Chap Stick
- Keychain with all necessary keys, a Sears/Craftsman 4-way pocket screw driver, and a Verbatim 16gb Tuff-N-Tine USB flash drive (16GB - TUFF-'N'-TINY™ USB Drive: Everyday USB Drives - USB Drives | Verbatim)

Ok this bag is 100 medical I'm a paramedic so I carry a little more than the normal persons Med bag lol. I was using my old EDC bag and had recently acquired a o2 tank that I wanted to fit all in same bag and came across a SOG knock off of a 5:11 72hr Rush pack at Walmart so jumped on it. Now this is not a bag you carry long distances we jokingly in EMS/FIRE call it a save the world bag it goes from truck to patient like a mini ER in a backpack. So here's some pics just thought I'd share if have any questions or suggestions feel free to chime in. Like every pack things and contents always changing or looking for something or better way of doing things.

Good set up esp the IV supplies. I have been tempted to carry here in San Diego but you guys are so easy to get a hold of no need. My RN pack consists mostly of ways to stop bleeding and control pain. Would love to have the range of ACLS drugs with me but so far have not seen the need. I also carry sterile gloves as the last thing I want is some jackass trying to say I caused their infection or compromised their new born.

Absolutely I thought about that more advanced cardiac being just had to recert and took ACLS last week lol. But let's be honest in a SHTF situation those people unfortunately that includes family in most cases are walking dead. Like you said stop major bleeding if can't breath breath for them if they won't be getting better your pushing a bolder up a hill with no end.

Oh and speaking of a fun cheap prep check these out I saw some guy whip last me this morning taking boy to school got me thinking. Pretty sure be emp proof and be a quick way while everyone is freaking out to haul @ss to where you need to get.

I think that in major crashes bleeding is the #1. As you know crashes create many injuries. (Thinking car not motorcycle here). Crush injuries, bleeding all need resuscitation and IV bolus is clearly the 1st step. Here in California I am not sure what a licensed RN can legally carry and wrote a email to the BRN and asked. It takes Paramedics and EMT's to really know how to approach a crash situation as RN's our training is once the IV is in we can fix a bunch of stuff. Also honestly Paramedics have superior IV skills to most nurses. We also are not trained in intubation (though we could) but that first few minutes should be in your wheelhouse. That said I would be happy to carry a couple saline liters and some good 20 gauges in my vehicle. Will post the BRN's response.

That's good thinking ! Plus you should be covered under the Good Samaritan act you are just providing help that you know you can provide to save a life of need be.
