emmissions question 3.0, 94

i dont have a pic to upload at the moment, but can anyone tell me what are the two larger hoses are that come off the air cleaner housing(one on top, and the other off that silly chamber in the middle)?

they both go to hard lines, cross the front and then go under the manifold. the big one gurgles off idle then stops. egr? the smaller one doesnt make a peep or have much if any vacuum.

im inclined to start deleting smog stuff, i live in a free state.

Neither is for the egr. I'd have to go look to be sure what they are attached to.... But I'm in bed, so will have to be when I get up.

You may have issues with it not running correctly if you remove any of the emitions related items.
+ you never know when they will start requiring smog testing.

Thanks. i was more educated on emissions stuff 20 years ago, and im quickly coming to the conclusion i dont want to re learn, the effort isnt really gonna benifit me that much. but ive got to get these lines fixed, I decided to pull the whole box to clean out a pack rats handywork, and those hoses started cracking badly.

im curious tho, what does the AC need a connection to the air cleaner for? vacuum controls? if so, that would explain an intermitant sucking noise under the dash when the heater or ac is on.

as an aside, i do know that this truck would never pass smog anyway, 1/4 million miles in dusty AZ have it eating a bit oil with its gas. just enough to see it in the right lighting. the truck is on the drive into the earth plan at this point. im hoping to see 300,000 miles

Mine has 333,000+ miles on it & Im just finishing up a complete rebuild of the motor. Hopefully it will last me another 300,000 which should be most of the rest of my life with as little as I drive.

If I am thinking of the hoses correctly they are for egr and the air injection systems connected to the passenger side exhaust manifold. I debated hard core about deleting them when I put headers on but the county I live in is one of two counties in my state that require emissions :yell:

The hose for the A/C goes into the Actuator. Its not emissions related at all. The PAIR system is simply air injection system that sends fresh air directly into the exhaust to help the cat burn more efficiently when the mixture is rich.... ie. when you get off the throttle.

The egr system is completely separate.

Honestly, unless there's an issue with any of the emissions stuff already, I wouldn't just go ripping it out. Its not going to make the 3.0 any more lively and you'll just be stinking up the place, literally.

If you don't use A/C, just cap the lines off. For the PAIR, I'd just take the hose and buy some generic tubing about the same size, or if you don't care, block it off.
