EMP proofing; how many computers?

Very good point on earth grounding a shipping container or metal roof and sides building as those are basic faraday cages.

Underground shelters or old limestone mines are probably the best bet for best protection from EMP.

Nuclear bomb EMP would probably be the worst variant. Sun EMP was last observed in the 1800s. So natural ones can and do happen as well from time to time.

For those who read the article I linked to earlier, there is reason to believe most vehicles will be fine in an EMP. And it provides yet another reason to want a diesel!

Wanna get super scientific read the DOE studies they did in Nevada test range. There are a gajillion other things more serious than an EMP attack. A legit EMP attack would simply be a precursor.

I want to EMP proof my 4R and thinking the main computer being the PCM id just need another one in a shielded box. I have manual HVAC controls. I see the gauge cluster also needing to be shielded, but I have the mechanical odo.
It's a valid question, That's what brought me here. These tinfoil hat people don't know that an EMP explosion doesn't have to be nuclear.
