Engine Block Heaters

Since the problem I have had with cold starting persists, I have decided on obtaining and installing an engine block heater. Can someone who is knowledgeable regarding this comment? I had one installed in a 4-banger in Vermont (freeze plub variety) which worked. However, I have heard that the oil sump heater might be better. Last year I had a freeze plug come loose. The mechanics had to lift the engine to get to it. Are they all that difficult to reach?

You can make one pretty easy with a blank coolant port and a single coil heater. I'll see if I can find the artical it uses a gm diesel heater and some pipe threading but it works for under 20$

I see the link and the photo of it is threaded. Will it screw into the freezer plug on my 2.7 liter 3rz-fe?

empty coolant port and a pipe thread adapter will be needed.
that means you have to find a empty coolant port or put a 3 way in one that is being used then get the right size pipe threading to fit the new block heater to your coolant port or 3 way.

the block itself doesnt get heated guys its just the coolant that gets warmed so anywhere in the cooling jacket works (close to the block) you can even put a 3way were your coolant temp sensor is so you'll get the heater and the sensor on the same port.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't have to tackle this problem until I return to Mass from Florida in 5 weeks, but I'm still thinking about it.
