Engine coolant leak. I'm stuck and out of ideas... [update]

Ok, I'm from Belgium and bought this 1992 4runner from italy with a 2LT (non E) engine. The car itself is in very good condition and has no rust at all but it has an engine coolant leak.

I don't know the name of it but i can't get it loose:

I tried every wrench and tool that fits but it just wont move... I'm out of ideas and came here for some help. :thanks:

'Let's try one more time' i said... And it came loose for some magical reason. But there's a big dent on one of the outlets obstructing the waterflow so i need to replace it.

I put this back in for now just to flush the coolant and the leak is gone but i stumbled upon another problem.

After i drained the radiator i filled the reservoir with distilled water an let the engine run. I presume this is the correct way?

I let the engine run for 10min, let it cool down and opened the drain plug on the radiator. The problem is, the radiator was still empty...

So, the questions are:

dead waterpump?
the thermostat?
Or was the engine simply not hot enough?

I wouldn't be surprised if it is rusted in and getting it out may break the threads. I would try some PB Blaster a few times and let it penetrate before getting tough with it! There may be something better but don't know what it is. Hooe it goes well.

You need to repeat that process a few times to get the radiator completely full. Fill with coolant > Heat up the engine > let engine cool > add more fluid. Takes 3-4 times before everything is topped off.

That was my intention but even after the first time there must be at least some little water in the radiator no? The reservoir level wasn't lower either. I run the engine to the point where the radiator cap was to hot to touch so i thought the thermostat must be opened by then?

Anyway, i allready removed the radiator and all the belts. They both need to be replaced. Tomorrow i will remove the timing belt cover and check the waterpump which will also be replaced...
