Engine shaking / Vibrating for 1st 5 minutes

So I had been noticing a minor vibration in my engine, but my mind was trying its best to pretend like it was a hallucination. Got in my 4runner last night and it was very noticeable on my way to the store. I could really feel the engine vibrating. If felt like the way old engines feel when they first start like they might stall at any moment.

It seems the shaking ends eventually when the car is warmed up, so I don't think it is the motor mounts. I changed the spark plugs and wires about 20K miles ago.

Anybody have any theories on what it could be, and god forbid not a 4runner heart attack, knock on wood.

Yeah sorry, I got the timing belt/tensioner bearings etc. done about 20K ago also.

It is a 1998 V6 with 132K

ENGINE SHAKING

My 98 4Runner is shacking really bad and check engine light came on. I had Advance Auto read the codes and it said that the 3rd cylinder is not firing. I replaced wires and plugs 6 months ago but went ahead and pulled #3 plug. It looks great. So I believe that my proble is the Coilk Pack is bad. Comments?

Should I replace all 3 or just one?

Aren't coil packs kind of expensive? If you can do the work yourself I would just do one of the coilpacks.

1 coli pack is $70 at Advance auto. So thats the path I'm taking.


Any comments out there on my course of action?

Sounds like you're on the right track. I recommend you get a repair manual though and read the process several times before you get to work.
