Entering a different state in nav

I'm going on a long trip shortly. I tried entering a destination 2 states over and I can't figure out how to do it. I also tried the nearest major city and it didn't show up.

I'm in California and trying to enter Denver, Co.

What am I doing wrong?

I-15 north to I-70 east, end in Denver.

Sorry, I know that doesn't answer your question. It's pretty easy to get here depending on where in California you are coming from. It's always more fun to play with the toys though, especially if you already have the nav!

Just curious, but where are you headed in Denver? You might have to take a detour through mountains and hit some trails!

did you try to set the navi to the desire state first? then input the actual address of that state? i never try on mind but it sounds odd if the navi can't do it that way.

They have the US broken up into sections, I believe 9. Each section has a group of states. You have to change that. It's pretty easy to do. Let me know if you need more help and I can check out my NAV.

Try this:

Push the DEST button to get the destination menu.

Under the map of the US on the right, push "Change"

Select "US3" (Colorado is in region 3, California is in region 2) and press "OK"

Then enter the destination again.

Hope that works!

Yup, you need change the search area. Right now (since you're in California) it's only searching California and Nevada.

We're probably going to take 50 - however the wife is not an off road sponsor.

I'll sneak in some dirt somewhere though.

If she just laughs, then I know I'm good for some miles, otherwise, I know my time is limited...

Ok, that was so simple...

Sorry for bugging everyone.

As some noted I could just follow the signs - done it many times in the pre-nav days.

My pre nav days tool was a 3x5 card taped to the steering wheel with routes turns and distances - pretty much like you get with yahoo maps. That was when I was younger and a driving fool - lol!!

Sometimes, when you have the tools, you just have to get hung up in the process though!

Destinations are

Denver, and the Crested Butte, Durango, Cortez area, with a dip down to Taos, NM.

We're visiting family and sightseeing for 7-9 days or so.

Should be fun!

Ok, just added Mosquito Pass to the itinerary!!! Those pics in the mosquito pass thread are awesome!

Crested Butte is awesome! Great riding for the skiers and snowboarders. Beautiful in the summer too!

A great drive between Crested Butte and Denver is over Cottonwood Pass. It is paved on the East side and grated dirt road on the West side. You don't even need 4 wheel drive for that pass but it is an awesome drive. You can still hit Mosquitio Pass in Leadville too.

How is your trip planned? Are you going to start out in Crested Butte and go to Denver, or the other way around? If you start from CB, you drive south towards Gunnison and turn left in Almont towards Taylor Resevoir, you will see the turn off for Cottonwood pass. If you are leaving from Denver, you take I-70 and get off towards Leadville (where Mosquito Pass is) and go to Buenna Vista. You turn right in Buenna Vista to head over Cottonwood Pass to Almont and on to CB.

You really can't go wrong. Highway 285 from Denver takes you over Kenosha pass through Fairplay to 24 and on to Monarch pass into Gunnison. That is a great drive as well.

Well, my current thinking is to take 285 from Denver up to the general area rather than 70. Do, Cottonwood then to CB. The next day, do Mosquito, depending on the level of cooperation from my wife. She's talking more of hitting the shops and spas in towns and I'm talking mountain passes (lol!!). I think I mentioned one too many passes talking with her today.

So, at some point I'll have to compromise and may not get to do all this....

The best scenario would be to do a pass earlier in the day and kick back with a glass of wine while we (she) tinkers around town in late afternoon.

The other thing is I'm not sure what's realistically doable time wise in a day. We'd rather take it easy and not be in a rush...
